Galway's seven-day Summer Festival is in full swing with seven races coming up on Tuesday's day two of the action.
The latest horse racing betting tips for Galway from Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders.
18:40 Galway - Yaxchilan @ 7/4
19:10 Galway - Emporio @ 9/1
19:45 Galway - Alpha Capture @ 13/8
18:40 Galway - Yaxchilan @ 7/4
Dermot Weld loves to target Galway and he has trained four of the past 10 winners of this 7f maiden, including two of the last three. YAXCHILAN looks the ideal type to keep up the good work for the stable under Chris Hayes.
Yaxchilan shaped well when fourth in a stronger maiden than this at Navan on his debut 17 days ago, looking green under pressure but closing all the way to the line under relatively tender handling.
The close third was rated 102, while the winner and second have to go down as smart prospects.
That should have put Yaxchilan spot on for this contest and the extra furlong is sure to suit.
19:10 Galway - Emporio @ 9/1
Tuesday’s feature is the COLM QUINN BMW Mile Handicap and it might be worth chancing EMPORIO for Joseph O’Brien.
Emporio was off the track for 473 days, having left Donnacha O’Brien, before turning up in a 7f Fairyhouse handicap this month.
That was a bit of a non-event for the seven-year-old as he was badly blocked on the run-in when looking poised to mount a big challenge, his rider having little chance but to ease him up.
At the very least the run should have brought him forward and the selection is well treated off 94 based on past exploits (ran sixth in the 2021 Irish 2,000 Guineas). The fact he has been given a Group 3 entry next month suggests his connections believe he retains all his ability.
19:45 Galway - Alpha Capture @ 13/8
It’s a surprise to see ALPHA CAPTURE running in a handicap confined to horses rated 50-80 given what he achieved two seasons ago.
After a productive juvenile campaign for William Haggas, Alpha Capture began last season rated 100 and competing in much stronger races than this, but lost his form thereafter and plummeted down the weights.
However, top owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede kept the faith and he belatedly bounced back on his second start for Willie Mullins recently, bagging a mile handicap at Killarney despite encountering a wide trip.
He was value to win by further and will have no worries about the return to 7f. A 3lb rise to 74 still leaves him well treated.
Irish champion jockey Colin Keane retains the ride and his mount goes with a favourite’s chance in this big-field contest.
