Wetherby stages a six-race jumps card on Friday, day one of their two-day Charlie Hall Chase fixture.
Racing Post tipster Marcus Buckland has provided three recommendations for the day's action at Wetherby.
13:50 Wetherby - Nate Of Spades @ 4/5
15:00 Wetherby - Minella Rockett @ 9/4
15:35 Wetherby - Primoz @ 13/2
13:50 Wetherby - Nate Of Spades @ 4/5
Charlie Longsdon has been ticking along nicely in recent weeks, the Oxfordshire-based handler sending out three winners from his last 11 runners.
His good run looks set to continue with Nate Of Spades, his sole representative on Friday’s Wetherby card, the four-year-old having created a good impression when winning a bumper on his rules debut in the spring.
The son of Nathaniel, who runs in the famous green and pink colours of Mrs Fitri Hay, is closely related to point winner Fortunate Soldier and a half-brother to 2m4f hurdle winner Sporty Jim.
He made just about the perfect start to his career on good ground at Warwick in May, showing a bright turn of foot in the home straight to put eight-and-a-half lengths between himself and Dennis’s Honor, who has since finished second in a Class 2 bumper at Cheltenham. This track should suit.
15:00 Wetherby - Minella Rockett @ 9/4
This is arguably the most competitive juvenile hurdle of the season so far, but Minella Rockett was the best of these on the Flat and looked a natural when it came to jumping when winning on his hurdling debut at Limerick in July.
The son of New Bay has progressed nicely this year on the Flat, finishing in the frame in turf and AW maidens, prior to winning back-to-back handicaps at Galway and Navan and suffering a near miss at Punchestown.
He’s rated 90 on the level and by rule of thumb, has the potential to reach at least 130 over hurdles should he translate all of that ability to this code.
While he’s not run over hurdles for 120 days, he’s got fitness on his side and should make a bold bid to provide John Nallen with a winner with his first runner at the track.
15:35 Wetherby - Primoz @ 13/2
This was won last year by the wildly progressive and sadly ill-fated Thistle Ask, and it’s attracted another good field, despite the quick conditions.
Dan Skelton, who has won the race twice since 2018, is double handed this time around, but I’m looking elsewhere, namely the Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore-trained Primoz, who appeared to be crying out for a return to this distance when running a big race over 2m1f at Kelso on his recent seasonal return.
The eight-year-old has won five of his 19 starts under rules and goes particularly well on flat left-handed tracks, four of those successes coming here and at Ayr.
He’s rated 9lb higher over fences than hurdles, but is well deserving of that chase figure of 132, having run to a Racing Post Rating of 134 on his last two completed starts.
His yard is operating at an impressive strike-rate of 24 per cent at present and Derek Fox, who is 4-16 aboard the gelding, is again in the saddle.

Marcus Buckland has enjoyed plenty of success over the last couple of weeks, his winners including Chattering Classes (20/1), Together Now (4/6) and Girls Allowed (11/10). He’s also had several places at double-figure prices.

15:00 Wetherby - Minella Rockett @ 9/4
15:35 Wetherby - Primoz @ 13/2
