Jumps racing returns to Fairyhouse on Saturday afternoon, featuring Grade 3 action alongside some competitive handicaps.
The latest horse racing betting tips for Saturday’s meeting at Fairyhouse from Racing Post tipster Phill Anderson.
12:12 Fairyhouse - Shajak @ 5/1
12:45 Fairyhouse - Rebel Gold @ 6/1
13:20 Fairyhouse - A Dream To Share @ 6/4
12:12 Fairyhouse - Shajak @ 5/1
In the second race on the card, the Ladies’ Handicap Chase, it can pay to side with one of the more experienced riders and Aine O’Connor fits the bill.
She gets on board Shajak and this could be a good opportunity for the five-year-old to get off the mark over fences. He hit the crossbar in a pair of beginners’ races at Tramore and Gowran Park before a five-length third on handicap debut at Down Royal at the start of the month.
He’s still learning on the job as far as his jumping is concerned and he would have finished closer without a few sloppy errors but there’s a suspicion he’s on a good handicap mark and the market support behind him at Down Royal suggests as much.
A drop back in trip could also be in his favour and he has solid prospects of giving Gordon Elliott back-to-back renewals.
12:45 Fairyhouse - Rebel Gold @ 6/1
American Mike was backed like defeat was out of the question in the recent Troytown at Navan and it will be fascinating to see whether the money comes for him again but with concerns over the drop to a sharp two mile and one furlong trip, it may be worth taking a chance on a specialist at the distance, particularly with American Mike taking up plenty of the market.
The one that appeals most is Rebel Gold after a promising run on his reappearance at Cork earlier this month. That was a first run in six months, shaping like he retains plenty of his old ability and he showed last season that he’s still a threat over fences, finishing runner-up to Ferny Hollow in a Naas Grade 3 that he had won a year earlier.
He’s come all the way back down the handicap to a rating of 140 so he’s back on a competitive mark and it’s also worth noting that he goes on any ground, having won on ground ranging from good to heavy.
Having finished a close fifth in this race in 2022 before winning another course and distance contest a month later, there’s plenty in his favour at his current each-way price.
13:20 Fairyhouse - A Dream To Share @ 6/4
A Dream To Share’s bumper season in 2022/23 could not have gone any better and while he disappointed on his sole run last season after a small setback, he’s going to be tough to beat dropped in class to maiden hurdle company if fit on his seasonal return.
This son of Muhaarar got the better of Fact To File in 2023’s Champion Bumper, a race that worked out particularly well, and he ran to a similar level when landing another Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival.
Because this race has a bit of depth to it and 25 runners, this Grade 1 winner is odds against for his return to action and he’ll be a tough nut to crack if he retains all of his ability from 2023.
