Here are the latest horse racing betting tips for Friday's racing from Exeter and Warwick from Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders.
14:30 Exeter - Alcedo @ 2/1
15:40 Warwick - Lanesborough @ 11/4
16:00 Exeter - Ascending Lark @ 10/11
14:30 Exeter - Alcedo @ 2/1
Venetia Williams has been ticking along at a healthy 23 percent strike-rate over the past fortnight and Alcedo is taken to keep up the good work in the 3m novice handicap chase at Exeter.
Alcedo beat the useful Navajo Indy in a maiden hurdle at this course in December 2023 before being highly tried in a Grade 2 at Haydock.
The selection found that race coming too soon in his development, but he was always likely to be a superior chaser, and he duly got off the mark on his second start over fences at Ffos Las two weeks ago with a game effort.
That intermediate trip seemed on the sharp side for Alcedo, who can brush aside a 4lb rise with Exeter’s stiff three miles looking sure to suit.
15:40 Warwick - Lanesborough @ 11/4
The hat-trick seeing Casa Loupi will have plenty of admirers in the 2m3f at Warwick, but he is passed over at short odds for the in-form Lanesborough, who may still have something up his sleeve from the handicapper.
The Ben Pauling-trained six-year-old had useful form in point-to-points and has shaped excellently on both starts in handicaps despite finishing runner-up each time.
Lanesborough finished like a train in the first of those at Hereford over two miles and looked a certainty to appreciate an extra half a mile at Chepstow.
He travelled all over the field but unfortunately couldn’t put the race to bed when running into an in-form rival with a nice profile himself. The selection will be winning before long and he deserves another shot.
16:00 Exeter - Ascending Lark @ 10/11
Harry Derham endured a testing middle part of the season but the tide has been turning lately and Ascending Lark is a strong fancy to collect the extended 2m mares’ handicap hurdle at Exeter.
Ascending Lark finished in the money in a bumper behind Brighterdaysahead for previous connections and has been well placed to remain unbeaten in three starts since joining Derham.
She landed her maiden hurdle and defied a penalty in a novice before striking on her handicap debut on her return from a 278-day absence at Newcastle in January.
That run should have brought her forward and a 4lb rise surely underestimates her. Her chief rivals here are better known as two-and-a-half milers, so she should have too much speed for them over this distance.
