Saturday's Doncaster Horse Racing Betting Tips and Odds

14:05 Doncaster – Sail Away @ 10/1
14:40 Doncaster – West Balboa @
8/13
15:15 Doncaster – Altobelli @
5/2

14:05 Doncaster – Sail Away @ 10/1

Sail Away is considered capable of bouncing back from a November fall at Newbury when representing Dan Skelton in the £50,000 Class 2 15-runner 3m bet365 Handicap Chase from Doncaster on Saturday afternoon (2.05).

Skelton went 17-68 (25%) with his runners in the past 14 days, which includes a hat-trick at Warwick on Thursday. He is 10-63 (16%) with his runners over fences at Doncaster and Saturday's jockey Fergus Gillard is 13-103 (13%) when riding for the yard.

The Martaline gelding was making headway when falling four out in a Newbury handicap chase last month. He is usually a sound jumper and is well enough handicapped to be worth risking as he attempts to put that mishap behind him, stepping back up to a more suitable trip.

The eight-year-old features off a mark of 136, and he achieved a Racing Post Rating (RPR) of 149 over 3m on a left-handed course over fences when winning at Ayr in April 2023.

He also finished a four-length fourth of 18 in the Great Yorkshire Handicap Chase over this course and distance in January 2024 from a 6lb higher rating, adequately illustrating that he has the ability to win a race of this nature, if reproducing the pick of his form.

14:40 Doncaster – West Balboa @ 8/13

An in-form Skelton is also represented by West Balboa in the £35,000 Listed five-runner extended 3m bet365 Doncaster Mares' Hurdle (2.40) on Saturday.

West Balboa is reverting to the smaller obstacles after failing to shine in her first two starts over regulation fences at Worcester and Bangor in October and November.

She is clearly the one to beat on these favourable terms. The eight-year-old daughter of Yeats achieved an RPR of 145 over this trip on good to soft ground when third in a Grade 3 handicap hurdle at Aintree in April, and a reproduction of that level of form is likely to suffice.

15:15 Doncaster – Altobelli @ 5/2

Finally, Altobelli has decent claims in Doncaster's £50,000 Class 2 eight-runner extended 2m bet365 Handicap Hurdle (3.15), representing Harry Fry.

Fry was successful with one of his three runners in the past 14 days, and Altobelli has a particularly good record when fresh.

The six-year-old won an Exeter bumper on his debut in February 2022, a Ffos Las maiden hurdle on his seasonal reappearance in December 2022 and he achieved an RPR of 137 when second in a Class 2 handicap hurdle at Ascot on his seasonal reappearance in November 2023.

The Ascot winner Knickerbockerglory is now rated 9lb higher after winning easily at Sandown last Saturday, and the selection is handicapped to go well from a mark of 130 when returning to action on Saturday.
