Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders is back to run us through his selections for Saturday's meeting at the Curragh.
15:25 Curragh - Electric Storm @ 3/1
16:35 Curragh - Babouche @ 11/4
17:40 Curragh - Quadruple @ 3/1
15:25 Curragh - Electric Storm @ 3/1
ELECTRIC STORM is an improving sprinter who won’t be far away in the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes if she continues her recent progression.
The daughter of Night Of Thunder has come from slightly under the radar in the sprint division this season, picking up a couple of all-weather novices at three before chasing home the revelation that is Adaay In Devon at Bath on her return.
A good winner of the Cecil Frail against her own sex at Haydock next time, Electric Storm was then upped in class for a Group 3 at Deauville and almost took it, only being nabbed late in the picture by Shouldvebeenaring, who is Group 1 class on his day.
James Tate saddled a 16/1 winner with his only previous Irish runner this term and this filly has a nice draw in stall four with early pace either side of her. She looks the type to raise her game after only five starts.
16:35 Curragh - Babouche @ 11/4
A Group 1 is up for grabs in the Phoenix Stakes and Whistlejacket is a warm order to take this out for Aidan O’Brien, who won this two seasons ago with the colt’s full-brother Little Big Bear.
However, he looks short enough in the betting relative to BABOUCHE for the same connections, who landed this in 2019 with Siskin. The Ger Lyons-trained filly impressed in the Anglesy Stakes last time, winning despite seeming to idle when hitting the front and defying the experience gulf she had with the remainder of the field.
That took her record to two from two and was the second occasion she’s registered a strong time.
A sister to the Lyons-trained Zarinsk, a Group 2 winner at three who wasn’t at Babouche’s level as a juvenile, the selection can show her class at the Curragh.
17:40 Curragh - Quadruple @ 3/1
Lyons, owners Juddmonte and rider Colin Keane can enjoy a double with QUADRUPLE in the mile handicap later on the card.
It looks significant that Keane has deserted the in-form Genuine Article, who went close at Galway last week, to partner this filly.
The daughter of Frankel is another exceptionally bred Juddmonte sort as her dam was a Group 1-winning sprinter.
She appears to have taken after her sire in that she stays a mile strongly, and the drop back to 7f last time at Leopardstown just caught her out when she was edged out by a more prominently ridden winner by a nose. The pair were well clear of the third.
The galloping nature of the Curragh should suit and there is still wiggle room from her mark.
Quadruple’s dam improved two stone after she started in handicaps and this filly is capable of continuing to climb through the ranks after just five runs.
