It’s day two of the Curragh’s three-day Guineas meeting and there is a cracking eight-race card to enjoy with the Irish 2000 Guineas taking centre stage.
The latest horse racing betting tips for the Curragh from Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders.
14:30 Curragh - Easy @ 12/1
15:05 Curragh - Sumiha @ 5/2
15:40 Curragh - Rosallion @ 10/11
14:30 Curragh - Easy @ 12/1
The Group 2 Greenlands Stakes is a fascinating contest and lightly-raced filly Easy takes the eye.
This thrice-raced four-year-old doesn’t have that much to find with the best of these as she notched a Racing Post Rating of 111 when taking out a Listed race at Cork following a 567-day absence in March.
Easy defeated subsequent Gladness winner Yosemite Valley a shade cosily there despite being easy to back (14/1 to a 25/1 SP on the show) on her second stable debut for Andrew Slattery after rejoining the yard from Paddy Twomey.
The bounce factor is always a concern for ones with her profile, but Slattery has given her 56 days to get over those exertions and a big season could be in the pipeline.
15:05 Curragh - Sumiha @ 5/2
Another unexposed type of interest on the card is Sumiha in the Listed Orby Stakes.
This deeply unexposed filly beat the smart Thunder Roll in a 1m2f maiden at this course last August and proved she trained on by finishing a close second to that rival on only her second start in a Listed contest over 1m4f at Cork last month.
While the places were reversed, Sumiha was repeatedly denied a clear run up the inside and shaped comfortably the best when half a length behind the more prominently ridden winner. There can be little doubt over who the finest long-term prospect is in that field.
That would have taught her plenty and, after only three starts, Sumiha is capable of significant further improvement. A Group 1 entry in the Pretty Polly Stakes here next month points towards a big future.
15:40 Curragh - Rosallion @ 10/11
Aidan O’Brien will saddle three runners in the feature Irish 2000 Guineas, although each of them are making their first starts of the campaign.
Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf one-two Unquestionable and Mountain Bear, along with the speedy River Tiber, are expected to be rusty, and I’d be wary of backing any Ballydoyle runner first time out in a Group 1.
It seems that the stars have aligned for Richard Hannon, who is responsible for Rosallion and Haatem.
You’d have to favour the former as he holds Haatem on Newmarket Classic form and might have gone for home too soon under Sean Levey as the pace was strong.
That was still a superb effort from Rosallion to only give best to the held-up Notable Speech, a now established top-class performer who had the benefit of race fitness on his side, and a replication of that display will make the selection tough to beat with the ground to his liking.
