17:30 – And So To Bed @ 8/1

There are plenty of nice types in the second maiden on the card at the Curragh on Friday evening and it’s probably a race to follow going forward.

Some of the beautifully bred newcomers include Lake Victoria for Ballydoyle who is a daughter of Frankel and there’s plenty of speed in her pedigree given that she’s out of the top class mare and multiple Group 1 winner Quiet Reflection. She gets the vote of Ryan Moore over stablemate Exactly, who also has a particularly attractive pedigree.

Bay Colony and Marazion are two other newcomers to note but this might go to one with experience in the shape of And So To Bed.

Joseph O’Brien’s filly ran a very encouraging race when fourth on debut at this venue, looking green for 80% of that race, but it looked like the penny started to drop late in the day when staying on nicely for fourth.

This daughter of Kodiac gave the impression that an extra furlong would be ideal for her that day and the yard’s newcomers often take a sizeable step forward from their first outing. There’s plenty of hope in her pedigree that she will stay this longer trip and the ground should be in her favour too.

18:05 – Port Louis @ 11/2

Over the same course and distance, the Kildare handicap has a competitive look to it but one that might be worth taking a chance on is Port Louis.

He showed plenty of promise as a juvenile last term and bounced back from a couple of low-key efforts at Naas this season when beaten just under a length at Fairyhouse last month.

That’s an effort worth marking up given that the gelding met a load of trouble in running and if he gets a clear passage this time, he could be the one to beat, even from a 3lb higher handicap mark.

2021’s winner of this race, Ice Cold In Alex, could be the main threat after an encouraging run over the extended six furlongs at this venue earlier this month.

19:50 – Brewel Hill @ 8/1

The penultimate handicap on the card has an open look to it but one that ought to go well is Brewel Hill.

It was something like a career best on his comeback run at Limerick earlier this month, beaten just half a length off the back of a 263-day absence and there’s every chance he could come on for that run, particularly if he settles better in the early stages.

Stall 16 isn’t ideal but plenty of other factors are in his favour, including the quick ground and step back up in trip, and he gets the services of Scott McCullagh, who is a bit of value for the 3lb he can still claim.
