Chelmsford Horse Racing Tips for Thursday

There's an attractive card at Chelmsford on Thursday and Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders is on hand to give his selections for the meeting.

17:40 Chelmsford - William Walton @ 10/3

DUE FOR LUCK could take a bit of stopping in the 5f handicap at Chelmsford if getting the breaks.

The John and Sean Quinn-trained three-year-old has generally been operating at a higher level this season and has crucially dropped to a 7lb lower mark than when he was an excellent third in the 3YO Dash at Epsom on Derby day.

Despite his tumbling BHA rating, there have been recent signs of life from Due For Luck, who found his path blocked repeatedly when fifth over course and distance last time.

If that return from a 70-day break has brought him forward, he could prove tough to beat, and with a dirt pedigree on the sire's side, Due For Luck can raise his game on just his third start on the all-weather.

17:40 Chelmsford - William Walton @ 10/3

WILLIAM WALTON also catches the eye at Chelmsford for the excellent Owen Burrows in the 1m6f handicap.

He has an outstanding pedigree as his brother, Waldgeist, landed the Arc a few seasons ago, and he meets exposed opposition on his handicap debut over two furlongs further than he has previously raced.

It seems likely William Walton will rate a good bit higher before long and he was noted making some excellent late headway away from where the action unfolded at Southwell over 1m4f last time on his final run to qualify for a mark.

The first four home were all better positioned than he was in that slowly run contest, while the only horse to run since landed a novice in good style recently.

Open to further improvement, William Walton can emerge as a stayer to follow.

18:10 Chelmsford - Gaiety Musical @ 16/1

GAIETY MUSICAL merits consideration in the 6f handicap at Chelmsford on her first attempt at a sprinting distance for David Evans, who has combined with good 5lb claimer Jordan Williams for a few recent winners.

This filly outran odds of 250/1 when second at Leicester on her debut and enhanced her profile when leading a Listed field at Carlisle for much of the way on her second outing. She proved outclassed and outstayed over that stiff 7f when push came to shove, but it was still a promising effort.

The handicapper keeps dropping the daughter of Gregorian, but she has been meeting better horses than this in recent times and may just find her niche as a sprinter.

With the rider's claim, she is effectively racing off 63, and over the summer she split fillies who are now rated 89 and 80 when a good second in a 7f novice here.
