Thursday's Chelmsford Horse Racing Betting Tips and Odds

16:10 - Enfjaar @ 9/2
16:50 - Jenson Benson @
14/1
17:20 - Billy Mill @
6/1

16:10 - Enfjaar @ 9/2

The feature race is the 1m2f handicap (14:10) and the one to be on is Enfjaar, who was an outstanding winner of a mile novice at this course on his seasonal reappearance last season.

The lightly-raced son of Lope De Vega ran away with that race by six lengths giving weight all round and trainer Roger Varian wasted no time sending his runner up in grade.

Enfjaar competed in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot on his next outing, so is evidently held in high regard by his stable.

The selection lost his way afterwards and showed little form on his final three starts, both on turf and the all-weather at this course, but has now won two from two on his first start of the season and returns from a 229-day break.

There is every chance he can bounce back to form as he is best fresh.

He has been gelded since his last run too and the hood that he wore when successful on his debut is reapplied. The step up two furlongs in trip also promises to suit and there is plenty to like.

16:50 - Jenson Benson @ 14/1

The following 1m2f handicap (4.50) is another competitive race, but Jenson Benson loves it at Chelmsford and is fancied to land a fifth success at the course and second at this distance.

The Shaun Lycett-trained six-year-old has dropped to a mark 4lb lower than when last successful over course and distance last year and has been threatening to take advantage on his recent outings.

His last five starts have resulted in form figures reading 36245 and he has been beaten less than four lengths on all five occasions, including when recording a good time in fifth over course and distance last time off a 1lb higher mark.

A reproduction of that form would give him a solid chance here.

He has been off the track for 126 days and fitness needs to be taken on trust, but maybe he will have been revitalised by the break and is handicapped to go well if that proves the case.

17:20 - Billy Mill @ 6/1

The mile handicap (5.20) closes the card and the one to be on is Billy Mill, who has been in superb form recently and is still well treated having dropped to a mark just 1lb higher than for his last win.

He is also 1lb lower than when recording an excellent effort over course and distance in March.

That day he finished only two lengths behind triple subsequent winner Two Tempting and one place ahead of Riot, who has also franked the form by scoring subsequently. That is the best run on offer in this.

Billy Mill has run two solid races over 7f since, including one at this track, but should be well suited by returning to this longer distance and might be able to outclass this opposition off top weight for Rod Millman and Finley Marsh - who have a third and a fourth from four attempts when joining forces.
