Chelmsford’s regular run of Thursday evening meetings continues this week and bet365 are sponsoring five of the six races on the card at the Essex venue.
Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway provides us with his three best tips ahead of the evening action on the all-weather.
19:30 – Revolutionise @ 6/1
20:00 – Beggarman @ 8/1
21:00 – Isle Of Sark @ 7/2
19:30 – Revolutionise @ 6/1
The Watch Live Racing At bet365 Handicap (19:30) is a competitive 7f contest and there might be some value on offer about REVOLUTIONISE, who appears to have been running into form recently.
The Stuart Williams-trained eight-year-old has won twice over course and distance and is now down to a mark 2lb lower than when last successful here three years ago. He is evidently well handicapped.
Revolutionise is also 2lb well in, as he is due to go up that much in the future following his good second at Kempton 10 days ago. He was beaten by unexposed winner Oliver Show and came clear of the rest.
He is only 1lb higher than when last successful at Kempton in January and is reunited with Marco Ghiani, who has a good record on board. He has a win, two seconds and two thirds from 15 rides.
20:00 – Beggarman @ 8/1
The 6 Horses Challenge At bet365 Handicap (20:00) comes up next and this is an interesting little staying race. The one to be on is BEGGARMAN, who returns from a long break with his stable in form.
Trainer Hughie Morrison has been among the winners in the last fortnight and was successful with Caprelo at Kempton last Wednesday on his first start following a 133-day absence. That proves the stable’s runners are forward after their winter break and Beggarman is back after 135 days off here.
With all of that said, fitness shouldn’t be an issue for Beggarman and his last two wins have come at this track off marks of 67 and 69. He is well handicapped now that he returns here off a mark of 61.
He hasn’t been a frequent winner in recent seasons, but is evidently now down to a mark from which he is capable of scoring and Rob Hornby is a positive jockey booking. Hornby has a 15 per cent strike-rate when joining forces with Morrison in recent seasons, for a £1 level-stake profit of £12.54.
21:00 – Isle Of Sark @ 7/2
The Best Odds Guaranteed At bet365 Handicap (21:00) rounds off the card and the best bet of the evening goes in the nightcap because topweight ISLE OF SARK appears to have an outstanding chance.
Isle Of Sark has been on a frustrating run of placed efforts without winning and his last five form figures read 22323, but he has been unlucky not to get his head in front and can do so this time.
He proved he is capable of winning a race like this when first past the post in a 1m3f handicap at Southwell last month. He held subsequent winner Fox Flame by a neck, but hung right and lost the race in a stewards’ inquiry. Nevertheless, that was a good run in a hot race, and he is only 2lb higher.
Isle Of Sark was beaten just a short-head into second on his next outing at Newcastle and lost out by only a neck when runner-up at Kempton this month. There is little doubt that he deserves a change of luck.
He was undone by a steady gallop when upped to 1m6f at Southwell last time, but still ran another cracker in third and, with the pace likely to be stronger now he is back in trip, he can go two better.
