Horse Racing betting tips: York can be king of Southwell

Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders was a perfect three from three with winners at 3/1, 5/1 and 11/2 in his last column and he is back in the chair with three selections for Thursday’s racing.

Robbie Wilders’ tips

1.30 Southwell - King Of York @ 5/1
3.50 Southwell - Kitten's Dream @ 25/1

1.30 Southwell - King Of York @ 5/1

A big gamble on KING OF YORK narrowly fell by the wayside at Southwell over Christmas but the five-year-old can make amends over the same course and distance in the mile handicap.

The race was slowly run and King Of York found himself poorly positioned in the second half of the field after a sluggish break, forced to switch widest of all but finishing like a train to almost get up on the line.

In another couple of strides it would have been a different story and he will be a danger to all off a 1lb higher mark, with that weight of pre-race support surely significant.

The son of Kingman is without a victory in 19 starts, which is an obvious cause for concern, but has been running really well this winter since returning from a six-month break.

Given he almost landed a handicap here off 14lb higher two years ago before losing his form, it is easy to imagine King Of York bagging this if breaking on level terms before stringing a run together for trainer Scott Dixon, who bagged a 16-1 winner a few days ago.

The selection is also better drawn in stall five than we was when coming out of the nine box when last seen.

Robbie Wilders’ tip:

King Of York @ 5/1 - 2pts win

3.50 Southwell - Kitten's Dream @ 25/1

Hopefully Scott Dixon enjoys a Southwell double as I’m also interested in KITTEN’S DREAM at the likely prices in division two of the 1m6f handicap.

Admittedly you would have lost a fair few quid if you had been backing Kitten’s Dream in recent outings as he is on a 19-race losing run dating back to last February.

However, that means he has slipped to a career-low mark and finds himself rated 17lb below his previous winning one.

He didn’t show a lot last weekend at Wolverhampton but that was his first run following 64 days off and he was entitled to be a little ring rusty.

He didn’t shape badly in a couple of runs prior to his winter winter break and is too well treated to ignore now he returns to the scene of two of his three career successes on the all-weather for a yard going well.

Robbie Wilders’ tips:

Kitten's Dream @ 25/1 - 1pt win
