There are five meetings in Britain and one in Ireland on a competitive day of action on Wednesday, so there is plenty for punters to get their teeth stuck into.
The latest horse racing betting tips for Wednesday’s racing from Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway.
14:32 Bath – Miss Gitana @ 11/4
16:28 Southwell – Attila The Honey @ 9/1
18:45 Hamilton – Spanish Hustle @ 6/1
14:32 Bath – Miss Gitana @ 11/4
Sir Mark Prescott is famed for bringing horses along and improving them as they go up in distance and there is a good chance that there is more to come from Miss Gitana in the 1m6f handicap (14:32).
The lightly-raced daughter of Nathaniel has won two of her three starts since stepping up to this trip and one of those victories was a course-and-distance success in July off only 3lb lower than this.
Miss Gitana was scoring by a short-head for the second time in succession on that occasion and evidently has a good attitude when it comes to a battle. Her narrow winning margins have also made her a difficult horse for the handicapper to assess and she is only 5lb higher than for her first victory.
She was well held off this mark when third at Wolverhampton last time, but that was the second time that she has been beaten on the all-weather and all of her best form has come on turf. The return to grass is definitely in Miss Gitana’s favour and she is strongly fancied to bounce back to her best.
16:28 Southwell – Attila The Honey @ 9/1
Course form might not be as important at Southwell now as it was when it was a Fibresand circuit, but it’s still a positive to have run well at the track and Attila The Honey can prove it in the 1m6f handicap (16:28).
The Charlie Johnston-trained three-year-old simply loves it at Southwell and her form figures at the course read an impressive 511, with both victories coming over trips short of her optimum distance.
Attila The Honey has improved since having her stamina tested and followed an impressive victory at Newbury in July with a close second behind the progressive Tactician over 2m at Ascot later that month.
The worry is that she has completely lost her form since and comes here having been beaten more than 20 lengths on both of her last two starts. However, Johnston’s runners can be notoriously inconsistent and, if Attila The Honey is going to bounce back, it’s likely to be at her favourite track.
She is only 1lb higher than when recording that good second at Ascot and a reproduction will do it.
18:45 Hamilton – Spanish Hustle @ 6/1
The 1m5f handicap (18:45) at Hamilton doesn’t appear to have much strength in depth and it provides a good opportunity for the topweight Spanish Hustle to record his fifth career victory at the course.
The six-year-old recorded one of his victories at the track on heavy ground, so should have no problem with the testing conditions, and he is only 3lb higher than when last successful in July.
Spanish Hustle ran out a comfortable winner that day and the fifth has scored since, while the third home has also put in a solid effort in defeat subsequently. The form therefore has substance.
The selection needs to bounce back from a below-par run at Musselburgh last time, when he finished last of five, but that was away from this venue and he was beaten only a length and a half by the winner. That form is also working out nicely as the first and fourth have both gone on to score since.
A 1lb drop in the weights looks generous given the strength of that effort and Spanish Hustle can bounce back to his best now that he is returned to his favourite course.
