Ayr's Gold Cup meeting begins on Thursday and here are the latest horse racing betting tips from Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders for the day's action.
14:42 Ayr - Canon’s House @ 11/2
15:12 Ayr - Sugar Hill Babe @ 3/1
16:15 Ayr - Cheshire Dancer @ 3/1
14:42 Ayr - Canon’s House @ 11/2
Canon’s House stands out as an attractively treated type off a mark of 69 on his handicap debut in division one of Ayr’s 5f handicap for Michael and David Easterby.
By Zoustar and out of a three-time Listed-winning dam, Canon’s House has looked a work in progress in all three novice starts, but made the frame in all of them and showed clear signs of ability despite his greenness.
Taking a keen hold and getting a wider trip than ideal didn’t help him in a 6f novice at Southwell on his final start to qualify for a mark, but the winner is smart and now rated 89 after winning decisively in a good race at Goodwood.
This strong-travelling sort’s ideal trip at this stage is today's 5f and he should progress under Joanna Mason.
15:12 Ayr - Sugar Hill Babe @ 3/1
The second division could develop into a shootout between Sugar Hill Babe and Eternal Sunshine, who were first and third in a similar contest at Musselburgh last month.
Sugar Hill Babe hit the minimum in-running price of 1.01 but agonisingly failed to get the job done, although ultimately she probably sat too close to a strong pace, while the winner came from off the speed in a race run in a fair time for the grade.
Sugar Hill Babe is weighted to reverse form with Eternal Sunshine, who went close four days ago to enhance that form, off 2lb better terms and Clifford Lee looks an eyecatching booking.
Of Lee’s two rides for this stable, one scored at odds of 33/1 and the other finished third. This consistent filly can earn her redemption.
16:15 Ayr - Cheshire Dancer @ 3/1
Cheshire Dancer was declared for Wednesday’s John Musker Stakes at Yarmouth but would clearly have struggled in that Listed contest with a BHA rating of 82.
The 1m2f fillies’ handicap at Ayr looks a more suitable assignment and she has a massive chance.
Cheshire Dancer, who has given the impression middle distances were worth trying for some time, appeared to relish 1m2f when an excellent second at Sandown on her previous outing, well backed to get the job done but ultimately succumbing to a lightly raced William Haggas-trained runner who has a bright future.
The pair were almost five lengths clear of the third and the selection has probably gotten off lightly with a 3lb rise ahead of this weaker contest.
