There are eight races at Ascot on Saturday, including a superb running of the King George, and Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders is back with is best bets on the card.
14:25 Ascot - Sirona - 9/2
15:00 Ascot - Billyjoh - 8/1
15:40 Ascot - Luxembourg - 12/1
14:25 Ascot - Sirona - 9/2
There are a few interesting three-year-olds in the Valiant Stakes at Ascot (2.25), but surely none yet has the form to match SIRONA.
Sirona has improved with each start since joining David Menuisier this year and arrives following another career-best effort in the Falmouth Stakes. She was only beaten half a length behind the second in that Group 1, where unsurprisingly the top-class Porta Fortuna brushed them all aside, and that came despite missing the break on a track that favours prominent racers.
Her hold-up style will be better suited to Ascot and she gives the impression there is more to come over a stiff mile. The Falmouth was her first attempt at it for Menuisier and she is bred for middle distances.
15:00 Ascot - Billyjoh - 8/1
Last month's Buckingham Palace Stakes looked a strong handicap beforehand and the runner-up, BILLYJOH, can go one better in the International Stakes over the same track and trip.
Billyjoh was progressive on the all-weather over the winter and has continued that improvement since returning to the turf.
He is up 2lb for notching another lifetime best by finishing second in the Buckingham Palace behind English Oak, who is favourite for the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at Glorious Goodwood next week, and that was an encouraging first attempt at this 7f trip.
Billyjoh is in stall 15 and that is typically no bad place to be in the International, as five of the past 10 winners have been berthed in boxes 11,12, 14 and 15 (twice).
There doesn't appear to be masses of pace and Billyjoh's smart 6f form suggests he'll have enough speed if they don't go hard.
15:40 Ascot - Luxembourg - 12/1
The King George market revolves around Auguste Rodin and Rebel's Romance, but LUXEMBOURG is on their coattails based on raw talent and appears to have been underestimated.
This four-time Group 1 winner was back to his best when picking up the Coronation Cup two months ago and connections won't mind him coming here relatively fresh having previously produced smart efforts following breaks.
Luxembourg is largely consistent and versatile regarding the trip and tactics, while he finished well clear of off-colour stablemate Auguste Rodin in the previous iteration of the King George.
He also boasts decent track form over 1m2f. He was second in the Prince of Wales's Stakes last term and is closely matched with Auguste Rodin based on their meeting in the 2023 Irish Champion Stakes.
