Jack Channon has started the season in exceptional style and can land another decent prize with Flash Bardot in this Lingfield handicap.

This filly was a big improver at three last autumn and picked up where she left off with an impressive success at Doncaster two weeks ago off a career-high mark of 85.

That looked a competitive race for the grade and she dotted up in a good time.

Not particularly fancied in the market that day, Flash Bardot has every chance of building on that on her second run of the campaign and I wouldn’t worry about the switch to quicker conditions as her sire and dam were perfectly at home on such terrain.

Plenty of these could be rusty as they return from long absences and I expect her potent turn of foot to seal the deal.

14:05 Ascot - Mother Mary @ 9/2

Mother Mary was the subject of interesting late support on her comeback in a Listed race at Kempton last month and is worth supporting on her return to handicap company in this mile event at Ascot.

The daughter of Zoffany was backed from 28/1 to 14/1 on the show despite only being rated 82, a mark someway short of what is required to be competitive at that level.

She ran a good race in the circumstances as she was a held-up last in a slowly run affair and mounted her challenge away from the action on the often unfavoured far rail, failing to be asked much of a question when her chance was slipping away.

She deserves being marked up for that in any case and a reproduction of that form is sure to see her competitive off an unchanged mark.

Mother Mary looks an ideal type for the Sandringham over course and distance at Royal Ascot next month and this is a perfect opportunity for her to earn the weights rise she needs to ensure her place in that.  

15:35 Lingfield - Great Generation @ 5/2

I’d be wary of backing hot favourite Remarquee in the Chartwell Fillies’ Stakes later at Lingfield despite the fact she holds a class edge in Group 3 company. 

The two-time top-level runner-up returns with the Ralph Beckett yard’s horses seemingly needing a run to put them right, while the lack of a future Group 1 entry is surprising for one of her class.

With race fitness assured, this looks a good opportunity for Great Generation to repel Remarquee in receipt of 10lb in weight-for-age. This youngster’s Prix Imprudence fourth on her comeback when the ground would have been deeper than ideal reads superbly now.

The second and fourth went close in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket, while the winner is favourite for the French equivalent on Sunday.

Great Generation can benefit from this faster surface and is well positioned to continue her upward trajectory after only four starts.
