It’s another busy Saturday of action for Flat racing fans in Britain this week and Ascot hosts a seven-race card that kicks off at 13:35.
The latest horse racing betting tips for Saturday's meeting at Ascot from Racing Post tipster Phill Anderson.
13:35 Ascot - The Wizard Of Eye @ 5/1
15:20 Ascot - Hot Fuss @ 9/2
17:05 Ascot - Faustus @ 14/1
13:35 Ascot - The Wizard Of Eye @ 5/1
Ascot’s opener on Saturday afternoon (1.35) is one of the more intriguing betting heats of the day and a case can be made for a few in this contest. However, The Wizard Of Eye could be the one worth chancing with several key factors in his favour.
Firstly, a high draw is usually a sizable advantage when it comes to tackling this course and distance, particularly when the stalls are on the stands’ rail.
The son of Galileo Gold is drawn 12 of 13 and with front runners such as Run Boy Run and Grey’s Monument expected to make it a decent test, it could set up well for a hold-up performer.
The five-year-old made a winning start for Charlie Fellowes in the course and distance Victoria Cup earlier this season and he then went on to finish a creditable sixth in a Royal Ascot Group 1 over an insufficient six furlongs.
The gelding shaped like he would relish a step back up to this trip on that occasion and this stiff seven furlongs on testing ground ought to bring his stamina into play (Listed winner over a mile).
He still looks well treated from a mark of 102 and there could be more to come on just his third start for new connections.
15:20 Ascot - Hot Fuss @ 9/2
After a narrow defeat when stepped back up in trip at Goodwood last month, Hot Fuss could be worth chancing in the 1m2f handicap.
That was a return to form after a promising two-year-old campaign last season and his ability to handle testing conditions could be what sets him apart from plenty in this field.
He’s still unexposed at this sort of trip and gives the impression that this stiffer test will suit.
He’s also dropped to a good handicap mark so if this son of Calyx can build on that run at Goodwood last time out, he should outrun his odds.
17:05 Ascot - Faustus @ 14/1
The finale on the card, a five furlong handicap has an open look to it but there’s a decent chance that Faustus will be able to get an uncontested lead on the front end.
The son of Mayson couldn’t be caught when making all at Newbury last time when allowed to dominate his rivals from the front and jockey Mia Nicholls who claims 5lb is a good judge of pace, often adopting front-running tactics on the horses she rides for her father, Adrian Nicholls.
This gelding is 4lb higher for this event and his low draw isn’t ideal but there’s a good chance he’ll be able to get across the stands’ rail and he may be hard to pass if he does so.
