Horse Racing betting tips: Bluestocking to upset might of Ballydoyle in Irish Oaks

The fourth of the five Irish Classics takes place at the Curragh on Saturday and Racing Post tipster Robbie Wilders serves up his three best bets.

Robbie Wilders' tips

2.35 Curragh - Albasheer @ 8/1
3.10 Curragh - White Lavender @ 11/2
3.45 Curragh - Bluestocking @ 5/1

2.35 Curragh - Albasheer @ 8/1

It is always worth perusing a horse's future entries when it comes to handicappers and Archie Watson has seen fit to stick lightly-raced sprinter ALBASHEER in next month's Group 1 Sprint Cup at Haydock.

That is a vote of confidence that the best is yet to come and he could be thrown in off a mark of 97.

Albasheer might have finished 11th in the Wokingham last time and has dropped 1lb in the handicap, but made some rapid late headway from the rear to produce the fastest final-furlong sectional in the entire field.

That came on only his third start for Watson, who saddled the winner of that Wokingham with a new recruit, and the trainer can get Albasheer back to something like the form he showed when running sixth in the Dewhurst as a two-year-old.

Connections presumably expect he is capable of much better as he changed hands for 130,000gns last year.

He stays seven furlongs and likes soft ground, so I'm expecting this intermediate trip between six and seven to suit him perfectly.

Robbie Wilders' tip:

Albasheer @ 8/1 - 2pts each-way

3.10 Curragh - White Lavender @ 11/2

Art Power looks too short to these eyes in the Sapphire Stakes that follows the Scurry, despite the fact he saves his best for the Curragh.

The six-year-old is 3-3 there, landing a Group 2 and two Group 3s by a combined tally of nearly 13 lengths, but crucially each of those efforts came over 6f rather than 5f and this distance is slightly sharper than he would like.

Ladies Church is a massive player, but missed the King's Stand she was being tilted towards last month, so might have had a hold-up in training.

However, the two of interest here are Go Athletico and White Lavender, two proper soft-ground specialists at five furlongs.

Both are worth playing, but WHITE LAVENDER holds marginally more appeal for Karl Burke under Chris Hayes.

She disappointed in a Bath Listed race on her return, but surely needed it on a quicker-than-ideal surface, and is better judged on her close Prix de l'Abbaye second last October when conceding 17lb to a top-class two-year-old.

That came on very soft ground and White Lavender can't have it deep enough, as she proved again back over that Longchamp course and distance in May on the same terrain - a race in which she produced a career-best performance on Racing Post Ratings.

Burke has been choosing his opportunities carefully for this mud-lover and this looks a good one.

Robbie Wilders' tip:

White Lavender @ 11/2 - 1pt win

3.45 Curragh - Bluestocking @ 5/1

Aidan O'Brien has a strong grip on the Irish Oaks market and Savethelastdance is given huge respect back on her favoured soft ground after finishing runner-up in the Epsom Oaks.

However, BLUESTOCKING is one to follow for Ralph Beckett.

She is 2-0 down in clashes with O'Brien's other major hope, Warm Heart, but there have been reasons for those defeats.

Warm Heart sat much more prominently in a slowly run Oaks trial at Newbury and Bluestocking did well to get within a head of the winner in second.

Then she was denied a clear run in the Ribblesdale as everything went much smoother for Warm Heart.

A pace set up to play better to Bluestocking's strengths this time is likely and she is open to more improvement than any filly in this field after just three runs.

She is the value and I'm surprised punters can get an each-way price about her.

Robbie Wilders' tip:

Bluestocking @ 5/1 - 1pt each-way
