Only one World Cup final in the tournament's history has ended goalless.
The 1994 World Cup final remains the only time that two teams have not found a breakthrough after 120 minutes of football.
It was Brazil and Italy who contested the 1994 final at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
The goalless draw was followed by a penalty shootout and it was Roberto Baggio who blazed over the crossbar to hand Brazil the World Cup trophy.
There have been three other World Cup finals that have ended goalless after 90 minutes, but a winner was found in extra-time on those occasions.
The 2010 final between Spain and Netherlands appeared to be heading for a penalty shootout before Andres Iniesta fired in a winner four minutes before the end of extra-time.
The final four years later also ended goalless after 90 minutes as Germany and Argentina couldn't break the deadlock in Rio de Janeiro.
Substitute Mario Gotze scored the winner for Germany in the 113th minute to deny Argentina and Lionel Messi the trophy.
The 2026 final then saw Spain and Argentina go into extra-time, before substitute Ferran Torres fired home the winner for Spain.
