NRL: Griffin salutes Dragons after scrappy win

St George Illawarra coach Antony Griffin saluted the resilience of his side after they fought out a scrappy 12-6 win over the Wests Tigers on Sunday.

The Dragons are priced at 21/10 to make the top eight and the victory over the Tigers was another boost following the win over the Roosters on Anzac Day.

Scrappy game

The clash at WIN Stadium was scrappy to say the least and the supporters had to wait until the 57th minute before seeing a try.

And it was the Dragons that got the job done thanks to tries from Ben Hunt and Jayden Sullivan. It was the defence that proved to be crucial though. The Dragons have turned things around and have now conceded a total of just 18 points over the last two games.

"It's a credit to them, the way they've been able to defend the last couple of weeks," Griffin told reporters after the game. "We learnt some really hard lessons against Parramatta and Cronulla and those sides.

"Defence is always an attitude and it's a connection. They key showing up for each other tonight. It's just an attitude that we've been able to build."

Storm next up

The Dragons have now won the last three games but face a huge test against high-flying Melbourne Storm on Sunday.

The Storm have put on a total of 120 points in their last two games against the Warriors and the Knights. So it is fair to say the Dragons defence will face a huge test in Melbourne.

"It will be good to get down there and test ourselves," Griffin added. "For me, they're the best attacking team in the competition."
