There are eight big finals on the Greyhound Derby final card on Saturday night and the first of them features one of the most exciting youngsters in training.

Gymcrack champion Wicky Ned faced the toughest possible assignment in the first round of the Derby and lined up in the hottest of the 31 qualifiers, he was unable to recover after early crowding and was a shock elimination.

Since then he has dipped inside the sprint track record at Sheffield and dominated rivals in his Genco Puppy Invitation Trophy heat last week. He rates as one of the bankers of the weekend in the final.

Perfectly drawn in trap three - a box that seemingly produces the best possible start from most greyhounds - this speedy and precocious talent can fly into the opening turn and draw away from rivals in good style.

Miles clear on the clock, once in command the August 2022 whelp won't be for catching and should be cornerstone of all multiples on Derby final night.

However, a hat-trick of wins - including two over course and distance at Towcester - has followed and now the talented son of Ballymac Best is back flying and is a very strong selection to land the Hope Jeal Sprint Trophy final over 270m.

Main danger Aero Sacundai ran well from trap three in his heat last week, but switches inside to trap one - which is likely to prove more of a hindrance than a help when the traps open.

Well drawn down the centre in trap three, Bombout Bullet can assert into the opening turn before bagging the rail and proving too good.

Kevin Hutton's Mustang Ojay is another well drawn runner and is the forecast pick from trap four.

20:40 Towcester – Queen Georgia @ 11/8

The Mark Siddall Memorial Trophy final is one of the best races of the night at Towcester on Saturday and pits two top-class staying bitches against each other.

Kent St Leger champion and last year's Grand Prix heroine Coonough Crow smashed the track record last week and arrives in red-hot form, however 3 Steps To Victory champion Queen Georgia has the better early speed and can crucially gain first run.

Coonough Crow will need to negotiate classy railer Haka Carlo on her inside before getting a run at Queen Georgia, who can slip clear and build an unassailable lead.

Her appearance in the 3 Steps final at Sheffield was her first-ever race over six bends and she is yet to taste defeat in staying company - winning three from three.

Her drawn down the centre in trap three is conducive to a fast start and she is taken to dominate the 712m contest from the off.
