Racing Post tipster Dave Clark is back to provide his latest greyhound betting selections for Saturday's evening card from Central Park, which features heats from the first big competition of 2025 - the £12,500 Cesarewitch.
18:37 Central Park - Black Gent @ 6/4
19:44 Central Park - Fabulous Heka @ 1/1
20:19 Central Park - Romeo Empire @ 8/15
18:37 Central Park - Black Gent @ 6/4
A hugely encouraging sprint trial last week will have Oxford raider Black Gent spot on for a weak contest over 277m, and he rates as the best bet on a star-studded card at Central Park on Saturday night.
First-round heats of the £12,500 Cesarewitch headlines the open-race card at the track formerly known as Sittingbourne, but this classy and exciting speedster is the one for punters to focus on in the first race on the card.
Runner-up in a decent maiden competition at Oxford over 450m last year, this two-year-old has the raw pace to compete with most over two bends and has been handed a brilliant inside draw in a very moderate race.
Chris Hamblin's burly son of Burgess Bucks will be rushing into the opening turn from trap one and he can defend the rail from his rivals before asserting in good fashion.
19:44 Central Park - Fabulous Heka @ 1/1
Already a market mover in the ante-post betting for the £12,500 Cesarewitch, the Patrick Janssens-trained Fabulous Heka was a massive eyecatcher at Hove last time out and could go all the way in the first Category One competition of the year.
The lightly raced and scopey stayer has some decent clocks over four bends on her card, which suggests that she'll relish the longer run to the opening turn and will be able to hold her pitch.
Her 44.76sec (calc) trial over course and distance last week was a shrewd move from the Belgian handler and his team and she may even step up on that effort with the Kent circuit a tricky one to get to grips with.
The first-round draw has been kind to her with a useful inside draw in one of the weakest of the six heats and she is one of the bankers of the opening round.
20:19 Central Park - Romeo Empire @ 8/15
It's open racing all the way at Central Park on Saturday night and outside of the Cesarewitch heats the feature race on the card is the Maiden Trophy final over 491m.
Certain to go off favourite for the contest is the hugely exciting and promising Romeo Empire for Patrick Janssens, who looks every inch a star performer over four bends.
Surprisingly, he was unsuccessful in a handful of starts in Ireland but since switching to the Belgian's kennels he has shaped well - most notably when setting the standard in the heats last week.
Arriving last week at the Kent venue without the aid of a trial, he got lost at the second bend when spinning wide, but the subsequent surge of middle speed and his finishing kick suggests this is a top-class performer who is likely to improve.
This is a dog to follow in the coming weeks and months, he may even turn out to be Derby-class.
