9/2 for a grey horse to win the Grand National

We are 9/2 for a grey horse to win the 2024 Grand National at Aintree as the likes of Vanillier and Panda Boy look set to be amongst the main contenders.

Only three grey horses have ever won the Grand National, the last of which was Neptune Collonges' nail-biting triumph at odds of 33/1 back in 2012.

This year's race is set to include four grey horses, two of which feature near the top of the betting.

Vanillier, who was second to Corach Rambler in 2023, will be looking to go one better this time around.

Gavin Cromwell's nine-year-old has not tasted victory since November 2021 but he has the stamina to cope with the ultimate endurance test of the Grand National and he was second in the Bobbyjo Chase at Leopardstown last time out.

Another grey horse with ambitions at Aintree this week is the Martin Brassil-trained Panda Boy, who will race outside of Ireland for the first time.

He's been in contention in a pair of handicap races at Leopardstown recently and those solid performances have established him as one of the favourites to enter his name into Grand National folklore.

Coko Beach was pulled up in last year's race but he was second in the Becher Chase at Aintree in December and was victorious for Gordon Elliott on his last outing at Punchestown. He is a horse that could outrun his odds and be in the frame on Saturday.

The final horse of the grey quartet is Eldorado Allen, who was fifth in the Mildmay last year and is a former Denman Chase winner at Newbury.
