Greenock Morton v Hearts: Predictions, Tips and Odds

Morton are dreaming of a place in the last four of the Scottish Cup, but those hopes may be extinguished by an in-form Hearts team on Monday.

Greenock Morton v Hearts

Morton v Hearts betting tips and predictions

Hearts to win @ 7/10

Morton were beaten 1-0 by Dundee United at Cappielow Park last time out and that was a game where Dougie Imrie’s men could manage only two shots on goal.

That defeat followed a 2-0 loss to Inverness and it's just one win and two goals in five games for Morton.

Imrie’s men appear to be keenly feeling the loss of key players George Oakley and Iain Wilson. First-choice keeper Ryan Mullen has returned from injury but the Ton were able to select only four outfield substitutes against Dundee on Tuesday and it’s a fairly quick turnaround for the visit of Hearts on Monday.

The Jambos have won nine of their last 11 matches, the latest a 2-0 victory over champions Celtic, and Steven Naismith appears to be getting a real tune out of his side.

The Gorgie outfit are booked for a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership this season and they have cut by far the most impressive and progressive outfit in the division, behind Glasgow’s big two teams.

Hearts have the class edge on Morton, they travel to Greenock in excellent form and, at 7/10, they look a rock-solid bet.

Lawrence Shankland to score three or more goals @ 16/1

Hearts have scored at least two goals in nine of their 12 matches and the only game in which they failed to find the net came on a tough trip to Ibrox against Rangers.

The Jambos put four goals past lower-league opposition in Airdrie in the last round of the Scottish Cup, with striker Lawrence Shankland finding the net twice in that contest.

Shankland sits at the top of the Scottish Premiership scoring charts with 20 goals this season and the Scottish international is without doubt SPL’s most potent forward force.

The 28-year-old has scored 16 goals in his last 17 appearances and the bulk of those goals have come against top-level opposition.

Hearts are away from home on Monday night, but they drop in class against Championship Morton, and if the Jambos are able to find their scoring touch, Shankland is likely to get in on the act.

The Scottish international is on penalty-taking duty for the Jambos, who have won nine of their 14 SPL road trips this season, and Shankland looks worth a punt to score a hat-trick at a juicy 16/1

Over 2.5 Goals @ 4/5

Morton have failed to score in their last two Cappielow Park contests, but the Ton had previously been free-scoring on their own patch and there looks a fair chance that Imrie’s men can contribute to a high-scoring match.

Morton have scored 20 goals in their last 11 home outings and they have also hit five goals at Dunfermline and three at Dundee United since the turn of the year.

Clearly, a knockout competition will likely force one side to break cover at some point in the contest and Hearts have the top-flight quality to expose the Ton if they do get too far up the pitch.

It’s 4/5 that there are at least three goals in Greenock on Monday night and that looks a more than fair offer.
