With the previous two Grand Nationals won by 2¼ lengths, we're 7/4 for the winning distance of the 2024 Grand National to be under four lengths.
Corach Rambler justified favouritism at Aintree last year to finish two-and-a-quarter lengths clear of Vanillier and secure Lucinda Russell's second success in the race.
It's 5/4 that the Grand National will be won by a distance between four and 10 lengths, while a winner by more than 10 lengths can be backed at 5/2.
Winner | Winning Distance | |
2023 | Corach Rambler | 2¼ lengths |
2022 | Noble Yeats | 2¼ lengths |
2021 | Minella Times | 6½ lengths |
2019 | Tiger Roll | 2¾ lengths |
2018 | Tiger Roll | Head |
2017 | One For Arthur | 4½ lengths |
Four of the last five Grand Nationals have been won by under four lengths.
Corach Rambler made history for Lucinda Russell last year, pulling away from Vanillier and Gaillard Du Mesnil to finish two-and-a-quarter lengths clear at the line.
Interestingly, he won the race by the same distance that Noble Yeats did the year before.
Minella Times' success in 2021 was by the biggest margin of victory since Ryan Mania steered Auroras Encore to a nine-length triumph in 2013. In fact, no horse has won by more than 10 lengths since Mon Mome's emphatic win in 2009.
Tiger Roll became the first horse since Red Rum to win back-to-back Grand Nationals but he was pushed all the way to the line by Pleasant Company and prevailed by just a head.
