Horse Racing Tips: Graeme Rodway's Doncaster day two tips

There are two Group 2 races on the second day of Doncaster's St Leger Festival and Racing Post tipster Graeme Rodway has a huge outsider among his three best bets on Town Moor.

1.25 Doncaster
Bonny Angel @ 4/1
1pt win

2.00 Doncaster
Hiatus @ 100/1
1pt each-way

2.35 Doncaster
Frankness @ 9/2
1pt win

Angel rates a Bonny bet

The British Stallion Studs EBF 'Carrie Red' Fillies' Nursery Handicap (1.25) kicks off the Doncaster card and Bonny Angel looks a step ahead of the handicapper from a mark of 77.

Clive Cox trained her sire Harry Angel and appears to be getting the best out of Bonny Angel, who has a progressive profile after improving her Racing Post Rating with every run.

She bumped into subsequent Molecomb winner Trillium when third at Newbury in July and stepped up on that when third over a stiff 5f at Sandown on her next start in maiden company.

The switch to handicaps and return to 6f did the trick at Leicester three weeks ago, when she stayed on strongly to get up close home and beat the reopposing Lily In The Jungle by a neck.

The runner-up is 2lb better off at these revised weights, but Bonny Angel was no stronger than at the finish and the extra half a furlong on this galloping track looks sure to suit her.

She can take another step forward and follow up under John Fahy, who knows her well.

Hiatus could spring huge surprise

The Weatherbys Scientific £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes (2.00) is an ultra-competitive contest and it's worth taking a chance on Hiatus, who might be capable of improving on his form so far.

He will need to because he is rated only 70 and meets horses who are in the 100s here, but there has been enough promise in his four runs to suggest that he has his fair share of ability.

Hiatus improved his RPR with each of his first three starts and bumped into the subsequent Sirenia Stakes winner Mischief Magic when third in a 6f novice at Newmarket last month.

He was well held on his nursery debut at Newcastle last time, but was never put into that race and connections were probably just trying to teach him to settle. He was held up in the rear, in complete contrast to his previous two starts when he had tried to make most of the running.

A big field and the likely strong pace should suit Hiatus so, with bet365 offering four places instead of the traditional three, it's worth backing him each-way. A place return would do.

Frankness looks a freakish talent

Dance In The Grass (11/10) heads the market for the Cazoo May Hill Stakes (2.35) and has solid form. but if there is a star in the field it's probably Frankness. She can upset the favourite.

Frankness is by the great Frankel, out of a sister to fellow Juddmonte International winner Arabian Queen, and she appears to have some freakish talent herself judging by recent form.

Nothing has got near Frankness on her last two starts at Chester. She thrashed subsequent winner Endeared by three and a quarter lengths on the Roodee in July and won by even further last month - running away with a 7f fillies' novice event by six and a half lengths.

She went through the line eased down that day, so could have won by quite a lot further, and the step up to a mile looks certain to bring improvement.

Frankness can score for the in-form Andrew Balding yard who won a Group 3 race at the track on Wednesday with Bounce The Blues.
