Milan Bridge can make a winning start
Paul Nicholls won the Ebony Horse Club Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (12.55) last year with Jeremy Pass and he can make it back-to-back wins with chase debutant Milan Bridge.
Milan Bridge has some of the best hurdles form on offer and just needs to translate that to chasing to make a winning start. His pedigree points to him being even better over fences.
His dam was a point winner and one of his half-siblings was placed over fences in points.
Milan Bridge has been a far better performer over hurdles than either of those relatives and his latest second behind Remastered at Aintree pointed to him being ready for this switch.
He is 6lb out of the handicap, but stablemate Quel Destin is keeping them all out of the weights and Tom Buckley’s 3lb claim will go some way to putting him on a fair mark.
Terresita can make successful return
The Mariner Systems Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (1.30) features some promising females, but none more so than Terresita, who is fancied to make a winning return from summer break.
The Lucy Wadham-trained mare looked smart when winning two of her first three starts at Fakenham last season and she progressed well to record a career best at Kempton last time.
Terresita travelled well in that 2m5f novice event and put the race to bed in impressive fashion. She jumped the last full of running and cleared away to win by a wide margin.
She acts over trips ranging from 2m to 3m on good and soft ground and her versatility should be a big asset. She is also adept on galloping tracks like this and should find the test ideal.
Further improvement can be expected on just her eighth start and she won first time up last season, so it seems fair to assume she will be fully wound up on her seasonal reappearance.
Edwardstone looks a class apart
Edwardstone was one of the best novice chasers in Britain last season and he should prove a class apart on his seasonal return in the Jim Barry Wines Hurst Park Handicap Chase (3.15).
Nothing could get near Edwardstone last season over a range of courses on different types of ground and he ran a time comparable to Shishkin when scoring at Kempton over Christmas.
He isn’t as good as Shishkin, but won’t need to be to defy a mark of 161 in this company and his latest defeat behind Gentleman De Mee at Aintree is easily forgiven.
It came quickly after his impressive victory in the Arkle at Cheltenham and right at the end of a long, hard season.
Edwardstone has to carry 12st, but he is in a different league to this opposition and fitness is no concern after 224 days off.
He was being prepared for the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham last weekend before the ground went against him and has another week of work under his belt.
