York - Horse Racing: Gosdens begin Dante with high hopes

Day one of York's Dante Festival provides a fascinating Tattersall Musidora Stakes, which has been used as a stepping stone to the Epsom Oaks, including by last year’s winner Snowfall.

John and Thady Gosden provide the talking point in this five-runner contest with the unbeaten Emily Upjohn, who looks to cement her place in the Classic reckoning and who is 8/11 to claim victory on Wednesday.

Dettori thrilled after Sandown win

She couldn't have been more impressive on her reappearance, winning a Sandown novice by nine and a half lengths under Frankie Dettori, who was very bullish in talking about how good he thinks this filly is.

Dettori is a jockey who has ridden many Classic winners and some of the best horses we've seen, but he couldn't help but express how much he thought of her and described her as a filly that took his breath away.

After her dominant display she was propelled up the market and is a contender to take Classic success at Epsom in June.

Joint trainer Thady Gosden said: "Emily Upjohn was very impressive under a penalty at Sandown but this is a step up in grade.

"She's a big filly who should suit the Knavesmire and we're hopeful of a nice run."

John Gosden is no stranger to success in this contest taking four of the last ten renewals, two of which went on to challenge for Classic glory in the Oaks, so it will be interesting to see how she copes with this test.
