Golf Women's Olympics: Prediction, Tips and Odds

It is the turn of the women to battle for the medals at Le Golf National and Racing Post's Steve Palmer has picked out his best bets ahead of Wednesday's opening round.

The men's event ended on Sunday, with pre-tournament market leader Scottie Scheffler claiming gold for Team USA after an incredible final-round 62, and an American world number one is also favourite for the women's competition.

Nelly Korda heads the market, but there are others that appeal more in the betting with three alternatives backed to beat the US ace.

Rose Zhang - 16/1

The Americans could dominate at Le Golf National, with Rose Zhang looking a lively candidate for a medal in her first Olympics.

Zhang is a 21-year-old Californian who seems destined to become world number one in the months to come. Her incredible amateur career suggests she could dominate the professional game in future.

Zhang enjoyed a Tiger Woods-like level of success at Stanford University, then made her LPGA Tour breakthrough in her first event as a professional - in June last year. She won her second LPGA Tour title in May this year.

The stylish youngster has been focused on qualifying for the Olympics for months and was thrilled to book her ticket to Paris. She arrived in France earlier than most of her rivals, settling at a venue she knows better than most of the field.

Zhang finished tied first in the individual competition of the 2022 Espirito Santo Trophy - an elite amateur event - so she can hit the ground running on a layout she clearly likes.

Last time out Zhang finished sixth in the CPKC Open in Canada - a tidy warm-up spin.

Lilia Vu - 17/2

An American one-two seems entirely feasible, with Lilia Vu well equipped to challenge for gold and silver. She won her maiden LPGA Tour title in Thailand in February last year before becoming a superstar.

Major victories in the Chevron Championship and the Women's Open propelled Vu to the summit of the world rankings and she has established herself as one of the elite.

A back injury slowed the 26-year-old's progress this year - she spent April and May on the sidelines - but she returned fit and firing with victory in the Meijer Classic in June followed by second spot in the Women's US PGA.

Vu finished 12th in the CPKC Open last time out and she could be peaking for the Olympics. That two-month spring break means she is fresher than her rivals for the summer events.

Linn Grant - 16/1

By far the most likely European to contend for an Olympic medal is arguably Linn Grant, who can be backed at 16/1 for gold.

Grant won the Scandinavian Mixed event on the DP World Tour in June. That is the second time this great talent has beaten a field which was 50 percent male - a remarkable achievement - and she is bursting with confidence.

The 25-year-old has a balanced all-round game which allows her to approach Le Golf National with confidence. She finished third in the Dana Open last time out - an ideal Olympics warm-up - and the Swede can deliver a medal.

Grant enjoyed success in France early in her career. She won the 2021 Terre Blanche Ladies Open on the LET Access Series by four shots.

Back in France this week, the Helsingborg-born star will expect to get into the mix. Ludvig Aberg, who competed at Le Golf National last week, is a close friend who can provide some tips on how to attack the course.
