Open de Espana: Prediction, Tips and Odds

There are only seven events left in the DP World Tour season and players have differing targets.

Many are scrapping for the PGA Tour cards which can be earned from finishing in the top 10 of the DP World Tour's Race to Dubai Rankings.

Resurgent Italian Matteo Manassero and Japanese ace Rikuya Hoshino are among those teeing up this week looking to cement their prominent Race to Dubai position.

Open de Espana betting tips and predictions

Julien Guerrier to win and each-way - 66/1

Matthieu Pavon was a French maiden who used the Open de Espana for his DP World Tour breakthrough last year and there seems every chance that his compatriot Julien Guerrier can follow suit this week.

Guerrier made nine cuts in a row before missing out by a shot in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last Friday.

That weekend off could prove a blessing in disguise, freshening him up for one of his favourite courses. He has finished third and sixth in his two previous starts at Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Guerrier is 32 under par for his eight previous rounds at this venue. Making that statistic even more eyecatching is the fact that he has never arrived at the Open de Espana in good form.

This time, with some solid golf behind him, the 39-year-old looks a massive threat.

Alex Fitzpatrick to win and each-way - 40/1

Matt Fitzpatrick has been having a troubling time, dropping down the world rankings, but the career of brother Alex is going the other way.

Alex has been in solid form and could go close to a maiden DP World Tour title this week.

Fitzpatrick, who won on the Challenge Tour last summer, has been hugely impressive over the last month or so, finishing sixth in the Czech Masters, 12th in the British Masters, sixth at Crans-sur-Sierre and ninth in the Irish Open.

A missed cut by a shot in the BMW PGA last week will not have dented confidence significantly.

Fitzpatrick finished 20th on his Open de Espana debut last year, going eight under par at the weekend, so the Englishman will be licking his lips at the prospect of teeing up in Madrid again.

Gavin Green to win and each-way - 80/1

The juicy odds about Gavin Green could be worth considering. Like Guerrier and Alex Fitzpatrick, Green missed the cut by a shot in a high-class BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth last Friday, but he left Surrey feeling good about his game.

Green carded a second-round 67 at Wentworth to narrowly miss out on weekend employment. Only four players outscored Green in the second round of the BMW PGA.

The Malaysian is much better suited to this week's assignment and could turn into a leading title contender. He finished ninth in the British Masters at the start of this month.

Green was in poor form coming to the Open de Espana last year, but he covered his final 54 holes in 11 under par, finishing 28th. He has won on the Asian Tour and this great talent could be set for a long overdue maiden DP World Tour title on Sunday.

Club de Campo Villa de Madrid seems an ideal venue for his style of play.
