Mexico Open: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The PGA Tour's offering this week is the Mexico Open and there looks to be plenty of value in the betting given a number of the world's leading players will not be participating.

Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele and Ludvig Aberg are just four high-profile names that will be missing for this trip to The Norman Signature Course at Vidanta Villarta.

However, a strong field has still assembled for the tournament and top of the betting is 14/1 American Akshay Bhatia, with Rasmus Hojgaard in behind at 18/1.

Aaron Rai to win and each-way - 30/1

The big hitters will garner much attention this week, given this course boasts wide fairways and minimal rough, but one player that could upset the apple cart is the precise Aaron Rai.

Ranked 29th in the world, the Englishman was unrivalled in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour last season and he currently ranks 10th in that department in this campaign.

Now armed with a solid short game that was hindering his development, Rai broke his duck on the US circuit at the Wyndham Championship in August and he is a threat in the most prestigious events.

The 29-year-old has had three cracks at Vidanta Villarta, finishing 24th and 19th either side of a missed cut, and he looks capable of lifting the trophy this week.

Rasmus Hojgaard to win and each-way - 18/1

Going down the route of the power hitters for the second selection and Rasmus Hojgaard, who is tied-11th in driving distance on the PGA Tour, is hard to ignore at 18/1.

The 23-year-old gives it a good crack with the driver and that club could prove crucial to success this week, especially if the Dane has his approach play dialled in across the four days of action.

Aside from last week's missed cut at the Genesis Invitational, Hojgaard has been playing solidly in 2025, with a T14 at the Dubai Desert Classic followed by efforts of T22 at Pebble Beach and T12 at the Phoenix Open.

Already a five-time DP World Tour winner, it doesn't seem like it will be long until the world number 43 makes his mark on the PGA Tour and that success could come this week.

Aldrich Potgieter to win and each-way - 75/1

Another powerful player to keep an eye on this week is Aldrich Potgieter, who is the latest player to come through the South Africa conveyor belt and could thrive on his Mexico Open debut.

Having missed the cut in his first two outings of 2025, the 20-year-old was tied-15th on his latest effort at the Farmers Insurance Open, where he led the field in driving distance and strokes gained off-the-tee.

The South African suffered a final-round collapse in that event, having been right in the mix entering the final round, but that experience should serve him well in the future when he eventually gets round to contending again.

That opportunity for a win may come in his very next outing in Mexico, and the fact Potgieter is unrivalled in driving distance and second in SG: off-the-tee this season should give him an edge.
