LIV Golf Miami

Jon Rahm is 6/1 favourite for LIV Golf Miami and being shown great market respect, but the Spaniard is a LIV Golf maiden who is competing on uncharted terrain this week.

Rahm has never teed up previously at Trump National Doral, which hosted PGA Tour action for many a moon. He joined LIV at the start of this season, so did not play, either, in the two LIV Golf Miami Team Championships at Trump National. Any slow start will put him under immediate pressure in this 54-hole sprint.

Given Rahm has faded from contention late in the final round in all four of his previous LIV starts, there are grounds for overlooking the short odds against his name, perhaps opting instead for a power-packed American duo.

Dustin Johnson is relishing the chance to lay down a form marker before next week's Masters at Augusta. Johnson has won a Green Jacket before and knows he can be a threat in the first Major of the season if he can find his A-game in Miami.

Johnson lives in Florida and loves Trump National Doral. The course was redesigned by Gil Hanse in 2014 and Johnson quickly got to grips with the revised layout, finishing fourth in the 2014 WGC-Cadillac Championship there, then winning the event in 2015, before sharing 14th place on his title defence.

Johnson has also held his nerve down the stretch at Doral in the LIV Golf Miami Team Championship – he led his 4 Aces team to glory in 2022.

Johnson, who won LIV Las Vegas in February, will appeal to many at 14/1, while another strong option in the outright market is arguably Bryson DeChambeau. The 2020 US Open champion is exempt for next week's Masters and will feel he can have a magical fortnight.

DeChambeau, who has finished fourth and seventh in his last two LIV events, won his last PGA Tour title on a Florida track - Bay Hill for the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational.

DeChambeau has also proved himself at Trump National Doral by leading his Crushers team to victory in last year's LIV Golf Miami Team Championship there.

Punters seeking a player at bigger odds who they can put in an each-way investment may want to consider Sam Horsfield. Getting each-way terms of a fifth the odds, the first eight places, Horsfield can be backed at 80/1.

The Manchester-born powerhouse grew up in Florida and still lives there. He loves competing in his adopted home state and could be the surprise package of the week.

Trump National Doral course guide

Trump National Doral Golf Club, Miami, Florida, is a 7,701-yard, par 72, with four par-fives, ten par-fours and four par-threes.

The course was known as the Blue Monster in its PGA Tour days. It hosted a standard PGA Tour event from 1962 to 2006, then the WGC-Cadillac Championship from 2007 to 2016. The LIV Golf Team Championship was at Trump National Doral in 2022 and last year.

This long track has water hazards everywhere. Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson have all won previously on the course and are in this week's field. Clear, calm and pleasant weather if forecast, with moderate breezes on Sunday.
