Kenya Open: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The Muthaiga Golf Club in Nairobi hosts a DP World Tour event for the fourth time this week as 150 hopefuls battling it out for the Kenya Open, including previous winners Ashun Wu, Jorge Campillo and Darius van Driel, who claimed a two-shot victory 12 months ago.

Kenya Open betting tips and predictions

Joe Dean to win Kenya Open - 25/1 (e/w)

This will be the fourth occasion that Muthaiga Golf Club has hosted the Kenya Open when it has been part of the DP World Tour circuit but there are reservations about backing the last two winners this week.

Dutchman Darius van Driel took home the big prize 12 months ago but he heads into his title defence having missed three of his last four cuts and while his predecessor Jorge Campillo is among the most fancied runners in Nairobi, he has claimed just two top-10 finishes in the last year.

But one player who performed well in this event in 2024 and can build on an encouraging start to the new year is England’s Joe Dean, who is searching for his first DPWT success.

This week’s field is not the strongest and there has been enough about Dean’s game in the last few weeks to suggest that the first trip to the winner’s circle may not be far away.

He was forced to pull out of his last effort at the Qatar Masters through illness, but he should have had time to have recovered from that and he was fifth at Ras Al Khaimah and 13th in Bahrain before that.

Other encouraging results in the last 12 months have been his runner-up spot at the KLM Open and his third at the Spanish Open, so he should have enough about him to mount a bold bid in what is not the most illustrious of company.

Martin Couvra to win Kenya Open - 50/1 (e/w)

It is only a month since promising French player Martin Couvra celebrated his 22nd birthday, but he should hold bold ambitions for this week after some strong recent performances.

After finishing seventh at last year’s Challenge Tour Grand Final, he has settled in well at the higher level, as he was also seventh at December’s Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

Couvra then demonstrated that his showing was not a fluke as he was fourth in Bahrain and fifth in Qatar, so confidence should not be an issue as the tour moves from the Gulf swing to Africa and he can plainly cope with tackling the quality of opposition he will face at Muthaiga.

Ivan Cantero to win Kenya Open - 35/1 (e/w)

Spaniard Ivan Cantero is another player who heads to Kenya having displayed some solid form and, as a player who is ranked 11th in the DPWT’s greens-in-regulation standings, he should have the ability to negotiate the tight track players will be presented with this week.

Cantero had a dismal second half of 2024 after he missed cut after cut, but he looks to have got back into the groove with his fifth at Ras Al Khaimah, fourth in Bahrain and 14th in Qatar.

He has course experience after finishing 23rd in last year’s get-together and he looks capable of improving upon that showing over the course of the next few days.
