Jonsson Workwear Open: Tips, odds, date, course guide, prize money, records and how to watch

The DP World Tour has stayed in South Africa for the Jonsson Workwear Open, a competitive affair in which three European raiders could upstage the local talent.

Jonsson Workwear Open tips

Ewen Ferguson To Win @ 16/1
Darius van Driel To Win @ 55/1
Adrien Saddier To Win @ 75/1

A trio of Europeans may make an impact in the Jonsson Workwear Open, which has moved to a new venue this year and starts on Thursday morning.

The tournament started out as a Challenge Tour and Sunshine Tour event in 2022 at Durban Country Club, before getting DP World Tour status last year, with The Club at Steyn City acting as host. The event has moved to Glendower Golf Club this week.

Thriston Lawrence has spent most of this week clear at the top of the betting and the South African will be looking to use the advantage of home comforts to defeat the Europeans just below him. He finished tenth in the SDC Championship last week.

Three candidates for defeating Lawrence and the rest of the South African contingent are Ewen Ferguson, Darius van Driel and Adrien Saddier.

Ferguson, available at 16/1, did well to recover from a round-one triple-bogey to finish 20th in the SDC Championship last week. The Scot churned out greens in regulation over the weekend and a bogey-free 68 on Sunday meant he banked another healthy cheque.

Ferguson has DP World Tour form figures of 23-9-7-20 and the 27-year-old seems well suited to Glendower. A strong course debut can be expected.

Van Driel is also seeing Glendower for the first time this week, but the Dutchman will expect to contend after his heroics in the Kenya Open last time out. Van Driel is on offer at 55/1 despite making his DP World Tour breakthrough with a masterful display in Kenya.

Van Driel's tee-to-green precision makes him a lively runner at Glendower - a tight, tree-lined course which demands accuracy. Van Driel excelled in South Africa on the DP World Tour just before Christmas.

Saddier has experience of Glendower, having finished seventh in the 2018 South African Open there. He immediately fell in love with the track, opening with rounds of 68 and 63, and will be relishing his return this week.

Saddier, a 75/1 chance, has arrived in solid form, having finished 23rd in the Kenya Open, then 31st in the SDC Championship over the last fortnight.

Glendower course guide

Glendower Golf Club is a 7,542-yard, par-72, featuring four par-fives, but the course is 1,500 metres above sea level, so balls fly further in the rarefied air. The course record is 63, carded by three players - Graeme Storm, Edoardo Molinari and Adrien Saddier.

There are five course winners in this week's field - Merrick Bremner, Andy Sullivan, Brandon Stone, Daniel van Tonder and Robin Williams, who lost a play-off at the SDC Championship last week.

Glendower is a well-established venue, which first staged the South African Open in 1989. That tournament was a DP World Tour event there in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The 2020 Sunshine Tour Championship and the 2023 Fortress Invitational are the two most recent Sunshine Tour events which have been played at Glendower. A hot, sunny, relatively calm week is forecast.

Jonsson Workwear Open date and venue

Jonsson Workwear Open prize money

The prize fund is $1.5m, with $250,050 going to the winner.

Jonsson Workwear Open record score and course record

The record 72-hole score for this tournament is the 260 that JC Ritchie carded when winning the inaugural event in 2022.

That was at Durban Country Club and the record at Glendower is the 267 total of Chris Paisley, who won the 2018 South African Open there.

Who has the most Jonsson Workwear Open wins?

There have been only two editions of this tournament. South African JC Ritchie won the inaugural event at Durban Country Club, then Nick Bachem won the 2023 renewal at The Club at Steyn City.

Bachem, one of the longest drivers on the DP World Tour, enjoyed the dimensions of the previous venue, but Glendower has much more narrow fairways.
