Green Eagle Golf Courses first hosted the European Open in 2017, when Jordan Smith claimed the title in a playoff, while the 2023 tournament went the way of Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin, who claimed a two-shot victory.
Measuring over 7,800 yards from the back tees, the 'Green Monster' is a fearsome, water-laden layout which typically ranks among the toughest tests on the DP World Tour each season.
Tom McKibbin - 20/1
Northern Ireland's McKibbin has drawn inevitable comparisons with his compatriot Rory McIlroy and the Belfast native began to deliver on his immense potential when winning the European Open a year ago on course debut.
McKibbin will attempt to defend a DP World Tour title for the first time this week and, in a wide-open field, he could prove the best betting option from the market leaders.
Green Eagle is an ultra-long, demanding course and while the yardage suggests it plays into the hands of power-packed drivers, there is also a need for accuracy as errant tee shots tend to be punished - it's not uncommon to see players posting huge scores.
McKibbin possesses the ideal blend of length and precision with the driver and this time he returns to Germany armed with positive course experience and with a bank of rock-solid DP World Tour results under his belt.
The 21-year-old has finished in the top 25 in eight of his nine DP World Tour appearances this year - the exception being when he was struggling with tonsillitis at the Singapore Classic.
He hasn't played a DP World tour event since the beginning of May but he warmed up for his title defence by qualifying for the US Open at Walton Heath last week, carding rounds of 69-67 to make the field at Pinehurst next month.
Richard Mansell - 28/1
Richard Mansell also qualified for the US Open last week, reaching ten-under par through two rounds, then he went to Belgium and finished 13th behind Nacho Elvira in the Soudal Open, driving the ball with his typical precision.
The Lichfield man is yet to win a DP World Tour title but he should take heart from the fact that five of the six Green Eagle champions were all winning for the first time at this level with 2019 victor Paul Casey the only exception.
Mansell is proven at Green Eagle - he finished third behind Kalle Samooja in 2022 - and he has looked increasingly assured on the DP World Tour, starting the year with form figures of 14-25-9-9-11 before a couple of lesser efforts in India and Japan.
His Soudal spin should have readied him for an assignment which he clearly relishes.
Matthias Schwab - 100/1
While McKibbin and Mansell can put their power to good use at Green Eagle, there is more than one way to negotiate this course and those looking for a bigger-priced punt could do worse than take a chance on Matthias Schwab.
Austrian ace Schwab has plied his trade on the PGA Tour in recent seasons but, after losing his card at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, he's since returned to the DP World Tour where he was previously a regular contender.
Schwab is taking time to rebuild his career on his home circuit but there have been encouraging signs in recent outings as he made seven cuts in a row before failing to make the weekend in Belgium.
That was a backwards step for the 29-year-old but he enjoys the test posed by Green Eagle, finishing seventh there in 2018 and second behind Casey the following season.
