The top 50 players in the Race to Dubai Rankings have been invited to the Earth Course for this week's DP Tour World Championship.
Rory McIlroy headlines the field, seeking to win the Race to Dubai for a sixth time. Thriston Lawrence is the only player in the DP World Tour Championship field with a mathematical chance of overtaking McIlroy in the Race to Dubai.
McIlroy needs to finish 11th or better in the DP World Tour Championship to guarantee another Race to Dubai success. Colin Montgomerie finished as European No. 1 a record-breaking eight times, so 35-year-old McIlroy has high hopes of eventually overtaking Montgomerie.
Matt Wallace to win and each-way - 18/1
Third place in the Abu Dhabi Championship last Sunday may be followed by something even better for Matt Wallace in Dubai this week. The Londoner was swinging superbly in Abu Dhabi and would probably have won the event had he not wasted so many chances on the greens over the first three rounds.
If he putts as well as he did on Sunday for the majority of the DP World Tour Championship, Wallace could be the man to beat. A final-round 63 in Abu Dhabi sent him to Dubai in confident mood. He carded a third-round 60 on his way to second place in the DP World Tour Championship 12 months ago.
Wallace was second on his Earth Course debut in 2018 and the European Masters champion appears a likely title contender this week.
Rasmus Hojgaard to win and each-way - 22/1
Nicolai Hojgaard won the DP World Tour Championship last year and his twin brother Rasmus could be set to keep the trophy in the Hojgaard family. Rasmus lies third in the Race to Dubai standings, having enjoyed a hugely productive campaign, including victory in the Irish Open.
Rasmus started this season with some great golf in the Middle East and he has returned to the region as one of the most likely DP World Tour Championship title threats. He finished 11th in last year's event, but was playing under enormous pressure with a PGA Tour card on the line through the RTD Rankings. This time, he has wrapped up PGA Tour playing rights with an event to spare.
Rory McIlroy deserves favouritism given his incredible course record, but Wallace and Hojgaard look well capable of toppling the market leader over the next four days.
Laurie Canter to win and each-way - 60/1
The best outsider for the DP World Tour Championship may turn out to be Laurie Canter, who won his maiden DP World Tour title in June and still has a chance of earning a PGA Tour card through the Race to Dubai Rankings.
The Earth Course is made for great drivers, which is why Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy have enjoyed such success there, and Canter is one of the best in the business in that department. The Bath man warmed up well in Abu Dhabi last week and could threaten victory if some of the bigger names underperform.
