BMW International Open: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Thriston Lawrence defends his BMW International Open crown in Munich this week and will have his work cut out for him, with a high-competitive field set to take to the Golfclub Munchen Eichenried.

Guido Migliozzi - 30/1

Ryan Fox and Patrick Reed can be found at the top of the betting for this week’s BMW International Open but neither of them make much of an appeal.

New Zealander Fox has concentrated his efforts on the PGA Tour this year - he has not been seen in a DP World Tour event since January, and his Stateside efforts having been generally modest apart from a couple of top-fives in low-key events and a seventh at last month’s Canadian Open.

Reed, meanwhile, is in DPWT action for the second successive weeks as he goes in search of world-ranking points that are not available to him on the LIV Tour.

The former Ryder Cup star was 29th in the Italian Open last week, which was no great shakes, and is difficult to fancy at the prices.

Instead, preference is for Italian Guido Migliozzi, who claimed his fourth triumph on the tour a fortnight ago when he saw off Marcus Kinhult and Joe Dean at a playoff in the KLM Open.

The 27-year-old has gone through a period of excellent form, which began when he was second in the China Open at the beginning of May and while he might be disappointed to have finished 22nd in his home competition last week, he did at least improve throughout the tournament, so he heads to Germany in fine spirits.

He finished 10th in this showdown last year and that came after he had missed his previous two cuts, so he should be feared, coming into this year’s gathering in much better nick.

Thomas Pieters - 20/1

Reed is not the only LIV player looking to boost their ranking this week and Belgium’s Thomas Pieters probably has stronger claims.

He was second on his last DPWT appearance at his home Soudal Open, which was a strong effort as it came on a tight track that would not normally play to the bommer’s strengths.

Pieters should be much more in his element this week and has produced some good LIV performances lately, finishing ninth in Miami and fifth in Singapore.

He demonstrated he can handle the demands of this course when he was beaten in a playoff by China’s Haotong Li in 2022, and he looks to have a strong chance of going one better in Munich this time.

Thriston Lawrence - 30/1

There will be a certain degree of pressure on Thriston Lawrence this week as he defends his title, but his chances should not be dismissed as he has a great chance of putting on another bold show.

Precise iron play could be a handy tool this week and that is a box that the South African ticks and he was second on his last DPWT appearance at the European Open, which also took place in Germany.

Lawrence has been the second best putter on the tour this season, which could come in handy on a course which professionals do not tend to find provides a huge tee-to-green challenge, and making headway on the greens is the recipe for success.

Lawrence is a consistent ball-striker and those happy memories from 12 months ago could inspire him again to another strong showing.
