The DP World Tour stays in South Africa this week for the Alfred Dunhill Championship with a stacked field vying for the spoils.
The circuit has moved from Sun City, where American Johannes Veerman won the Nedbank Challenge on Sunday. Like last week, a course designed by Gary Player will stage the action, with Leopard Creek Country Club becoming centre of attention.
Veerman is taking the week off and the Alfred Dunhill Championship market is dominated by South African players who are seeking glory in their homeland.
Defending champion Louis Oosthuizen is 17/2 favourite, with his compatriots Christiaan Bezuidenhout at 11/1, Dean Burmester at 12/1 and Thriston Lawrence also 12/1. Nine of the last 11 Dunhill champions have been South African and that list could be added to here.
Brandon Stone to win and each-way - 28/1
A maiden DP World Tour title for Brandon Stone in the South African Open in 2016 was quickly followed by Alfred Dunhill Championship glory at Leopard Creek, before a Scottish Open triumph in 2018. He looked like one of the best young players in the world.
The South African ace endured a career wobble a couple of years ago, but he has battled back to his best and has been performing superbly in recent weeks. There seems every chance that Stone caps his comeback by winning the Alfred Dunhill again on Sunday.
A solid 10th place in the French Open a couple of months ago has sparked a run of five consecutive top-20 finishes for Stone. Swinging this well, the 31-year-old seems likely to contend at a course he loves.
Laurie Canter to win and each-way - 20/1
The most likely overseas challenger to beat the strong South African contingent this week is arguably Laurie Canter, who won the South African Amateur Championship in 2010 and has a good record in the country.
Canter finished 34th and 14th at Leopard Creek when outside the top 500 of the world rankings, then closed with a 64 for third place on his last Alfred Dunhill start in 2022, outscoring everybody in the field in the final round.
Fresh from 14th place in the DP World Tour Championship and 21st in the Nedbank, Canter can get into the mix again at Leopard Creek. He won his maiden DPWT title in the European Open in June and is more confident than ever at the age of 35.
Casey Jarvis to win and each-way - 66/1
Pick of the outsiders in the Alfred Dunhill Championship is arguably Casey Jarvis, who won the African Amateur title at Leopard Creek in 2022, before finishing seventh in the Alfred Dunhill Championship last year.
Jarvis was one of the most successful amateurs in South African golf history and he appears ready to win DP World Tour titles at the age of 21. He was the Sunshine Tour Rookie of the Year in 2023 and won a Challenge Tour event in July last year.
As a DP World Tour member, Jarvis does not carry as much pressure this week as many of the other South African youngsters. He finished sixth in the Genesis Championship at the end of October and will be relishing the opportunity to tackle a course he knows well this week.
