25/1 shot Golden Ace emerged triumphant in a spectacular Champion Hurdle after the favourite Constitution Hill and State Man both fell.
Gasps echoed around the grandstands at Cheltenham as the well-backed favourite Constitution Hill fell in the early stages, although thankfully both horse and rider appeared unscathed by the incident.
Constitution Hill's exit opened the door for State Man to carve his way through the field and the Willie Mullins star pulled out a sizeable lead before failing to clear the last, resulting in Golden Ace powering through under Lorcan Williams and claiming an unexpected victory.
The winning owner, Ian Gosden, bought Golden Ace for £12,000 and in the aftermath of his gargantuan success, said: “We were looking at different options, and I thought she wasn’t anything special, but there didn’t seem much wrong with her either.”
It marks Jeremy Scott's first Grade One win since 2021 and the trainer was understandably delighted.
“I’m not sure this isn’t a dream! As long as the other two horses are OK… I mean, it’s just magic," said Scott. "We’re so lucky to have her, she’s given me some of the most memorable days of my life.”
