Australian Football: Glory fear for injured skipper

Perth Glory fear Brandon O'Neill could be out for the rest of the season after damaging his shoulder in Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Sydney FC.

Glory sit second from bottom on the A-League ladder and are priced at 7/2 to pick up the wooden spoon following the home defeat against the Sky Blues.

O'Neill blow

And just to make matters worse they could now be without their skipper for the rest of the campaign after he suffered a suspected AC injury to his left shoulder.

O'Neill went crashing to the ground during a tackle towards the end of the second half and had to use his jersey as makeshift sling as he left the field of play.

Glory have yet to reveal the full extent of the damage but early reports claim the injury could be season-ending.

That would be a huge blow for Glory who have now lost back-to-back home games since returning to Perth. With a long run of home games on the cards the plan was to push for finals.

However that looks a long way off at the moment and they will need a drastic improvement if they are to make the top six.

Garcia fuming

Glory coach Richard Garcia used his post-match press conference to take aim at the referee for not protecting striker Bruno Fornaroli throughout the game.

"When you're down the bottom things don't fall for you, and that's including decisions," Garcia said. "They get a touch and they go down and get it (the foul). And then you've got someone who is hugging Bruno trying to take his shirt off him and then he (Bruno) gets a yellow card."

He also felt Callum Timmins was fouled in the lead up to Sydney FC’s match-sealing second.

"Callum is going to tackle him and he gets pushed away from the ball. I don't know how that's not interfering with play," Garcia added.
