Glasgow Warriors announce capture of Scotland star Jamie Ritchie

Glasgow Warriors have announced the signing of Scotland star Jamie Ritchie ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 63-cap Scotland international has been playing for French Top 14 side Perpignan since making the move from Edinburgh in 2025, but will now make a return to his home country after just one season abroad.

At 29 years old, Jamie Ritchie is in the prime of his career and continues to establish himself amongst the best flankers in world rugby, making this a significant coup for the Scottish side.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Warriors”

Ritchie made 133 appearances for Glasgow's Scottish rivals Edinburgh across an 11-year career, scoring 10 tries and becoming a fan favourite due to his work ethic and strong ability at the breakdown.

He has represented his nation at two separate Rugby World Cups - in 2019 and 2023 - captaining the Scots into the latter tournament and retaining the armband going forward.

The Scotsman made just 13 appearances for Perpignan last campaign and will be looking to improve upon this as he returns to the United Rugby Championship.

Speaking on his decision to join Glasgow, Ritchie said: “It’s a club for which I’ve always had a lot of respect, and I can’t wait to get started."

“Some of my best mates are there, so I’ve had a good idea of what the place is like for a while. They talk about how it pushes them to be better players, but also how close they all are off the field. That means a lot to me. You want to be somewhere you feel part of something, and Glasgow genuinely has that."

Warriors Head Coach Franco Smith added: “We are pleased to be able to add a player of Jamie’s calibre to our playing group ahead of next season, as we look to build upon the foundations we have already created at Scotstoun."

“His ability to play across the back-row will be a real asset to our squad, as will the experience he brings following his time in France, in the URC and with Scotland."

“We know the Warrior Nation will welcome Jamie with as much energy and enthusiasm as they bring each week, and we look forward to seeing and hearing those energy levels once again at Murrayfield this Saturday” he continued.

Glasgow Warriors are in the URC play-offs this season, gearing up for a semi final against South African side Bulls this weekend.
