Harness Racing: Gath charge primed to strike on racing return

Champion trainer Andy Gath says Majestuoso is in great shape and can return to racing on Saturday night without the need to have a trial hit-out first of all.

The six-time group one winner is set to race in the Group 3 Lenin Trotters Free For All at Tabcorp Park Melton and is ready to jump straight in.

No need to trial

Gath had toyed with the idea of Majestuoso having a blast in a trial at Melton on Tuesday, but decided against it as he believes his charge is in good nick without it.

“His work the last fortnight has been A+ which you expect for a horse of his quality. You expect him to be working really good,” Gath told Trots Talk. “He's in a really good place.

Barrett out to cause upset

“We've got no problem with him racing first-up. We know what to expect from him and we expect that he's going to be pretty close to spot on Saturday night.

“He generally draws the back row most of his races so it's nothing new for him, but he's good enough to overcome the bad draw and (I’m) looking forward to getting him back on the racetrack.”

Interstate trip

Meanwhile Gath has also confirmed his charge will head to Queensland next month before tackling the Inter Dominion Championships in Victoria.

“It might do him good to learn to travel a little bit again,” Gath added. “That's always in the back of our mind that we might head up there in July, and then if he goes there, he can come back and have another little break again.”
