Galopin Des Champs 4/7 to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup

Galopin Des Champs is the odds-on favourite to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup again on Friday.

The Willie Mullins-trained superstar has prevailed in the historic race in each of the last two years and he is bidding to emulate the likes of Arkle and Best Mate by winning three consecutive Gold Cups.

Paul Townend will once again take the ride on a horse who is on the verge of sealing equine immortality this week.

After winning the 2024 Gold Cup, Galopin Des Champs was then beaten in the Punchestown Gold Cup by Fastorslow a month later, before finishing third in the John Durkan on his November reappearance.

But the nine-year-old came roaring back at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival as he sauntered to a seven-length victory in the Savills Chase.

Galopin Des Champs was also a class above as he secured a hat-trick of Irish Gold Cups at last month's Dublin Racing Festival.

Whilst Banbridge could be a threat if he gets the ground and the supplemented Grand National favourite Inothewayurthinkin is an interesting addition, it would take something truly special to beat a horse who is on the brink of history.
