Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli is expected to be sidelined after being subbed off with a hamstring injury in Arsenal's 2-0 loss away at Newcastle in the EFL Cup.
The Brazil international was seen clutching his upper hamstring after making a darting run into the box at St James' Park on Wednesday 5th January, resulting in a 37th minute substitution.
Ethan Nwaneri took his place, and would be expected to make his way into the starting XI if Martinelli is to remain out for a long period of time given Bukayo Saka's long-term injury.
Raheem Sterling could also make a case for a run in the team, though he has been unable to really hit the ground running since joining the Gunners on a one year loan move.
Martinelli has already levelled his 2023/24 Premier League goal tally, having found the net on six occasions up to now, and will be hoping the injury won't prevent him from overtaking this total as Mikel Arteta's side aim to keep the pressure on league leaders Liverpool.
It has been revealed that Martinelli is set to be sidelined for over a month.
With Saka, Martinelli and Kai Havertz, who is reportedly set to miss the remainder of the season, out injured, Arteta's options are scarce. Competing against a Liverpool side who have had very few injuries all season, the Gunners have little room for error if they are to clinch the title.
