England begin their preparations for their defence of their one-day World Cup title with a three-match ODI series in South Africa.

With the tournament in India nine months away, England will hope to start the calendar year on the right foot with a series win over the Proteas.

Jos Buttler’s men, buoyed by victory in the T20 World Cup last year, have been boosted by the return to fitness of pace bowler Jofra Archer, who has not played international cricket since March 2021.

The Proteas, meanwhile, have slipped to sixth in the ODI world rankings, but their selectors have stuck by under-pressure skipper Temba Bavuma.

This FA Cup encounter comes three weeks before they go head-to-head in the Premier League at the Emirates, in what looks like something of a must-win clash for Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.

Novak Djokovic has dropped just one set en-route to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, as he prepares to take on American Tommy Paul for a place in Sunday’s final.

The world number one, seeded four in Melbourne, needed just two hours and three minutes to see off fifth seed Andrey Rublev in the quarters, winning 6-1 6-2 6-4.

The unseeded Paul has beaten the likes of Roberto Bautista Agut and Ben Shelton to make it to this stage and this is the first time he will have faced Djokovic.

‘The Rock Star’ Cullen will face Chris Dobey in his first-round clash - which is one of four all-English match-ups in Milton Keynes. The winner of that clash will face another Englishman, Luke Humphries, in round two.

Michael van Gerwen is looking for his sixth Masters title and the Dutchman will enter at the second round stage, when he will face either Jose de Sousa or Gabriel Clemens, who play their first-round match on Friday evening.
