French clubs reportedly consider move for former Rangers captain

French sides Paris FC and Nice are reportedly interested in a deal to sign former Rangers right-back James Tavernier this summer.

Tavernier is currently a free agent following his departure from Rangers at the end of 2025/26.

The 34-year-old is the highest scoring right-back of all-time with 152 career goals to his name.

Tavernier joined Rangers in 2015 and went on to make 565 appearances for the club.

Football journalist Ben Jacobs has reported that two Ligue 1 sides are interested in signing the veteran ahead of the new season.

It is claimed that both Everton and Aston Villa have previously made enquiries, while Tavernier's former club Newcastle United are also monitoring the situation.

A number of Championship clubs are also interested as West Ham United have held conservations, while Burnley and Derby County are believed to have spoken to Tavernier's representatives.

At the age of 34, Tavernier's next move is likely to be the final major one in his playing career.

He looks set to have the choice of numerous clubs and he will want to choose a destination which gives him the opportunity of securing first-team football.
