Rotherham United are closing in on the signing of Paul Mullin on a free transfer, as per transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke.
The 31-year-old striker left Championship outfit Wrexham following the mutual termination of his contract in June, and it's The Millers who look set to complete the signing of the free agent -- despite links to numerous EFL clubs in recent weeks.
The Merseyside-born centre forward was reportedly in Rotherham today finalising the move and will become the fifth permanent signing of the summer window, all of which have been on free transfers.
It was a somewhat bitter end to an illustrious five-year spell at the Racecourse Ground for Mullin.
Signing for the North-east Wales outfit on a free transfer in 2021, the striker became their main source of goals as the club surged through the divisions.
Scoring a remarkable 64 goals across two seasons in the National League, Mullin's form continued as the Red Dragons entered the football league, scoring 24 goals in the fourth tier and winning a club-record third consecutive Player of the Season award.
He was nowhere near as prolific in the 2024/25 term in League One, ultimately frozen out by manager Phil Parkinson from February onwards in favour of Steven Fletcher, Jack Marriott, and Sam Smith.
Surplus to requirements upon their promotion to the Championship, Mullin spent the 2025/26 season on loan with League One outfits Wigan Athletic and Bradford City.
A lack of game time prior to his temporary switches ultimately proved, netting a combined five goals in 35 appearances for the two clubs before returning to Wrexham.
Mullin will feel like he still has something to prove in the EFL, and he'll hope that he can play a leading role as Rotherham look to earn promotion back to the third tier after being relegated from League One in the 2025/26 term.
