Misfits Boxing have confirmed that Olympic Gold Medalist and former two-division UFC champion Henry Cejudo will headline the next card against Most Valuable Promotions star Javon “Wanna” Walton.
In what could prove to be a defining moment in the crossover boxing scene, Misfits Boxing and Jake Paul's Most Valuable Promotions have collaborated to set up a headline contest between Henry Cejudo and Javon “Wanna” Walton on Saturday 26th September.
Cejude -- who is renowned for being an Olympic gold medalist in wrestling and becoming a UFC champion in the flyweight and bantamweight division -- was scheduled to fight influencer Deen The Great, but he has been forced to withdraw due to injury.
At short notice, Walton agreed to step in and headline the card alongside Cejude at the Knight Center Complex in Miami, Florida, with his promoter -- MVP -- later sanctioning his participation.
MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidarian said: "Misfits offered us a significant financial guarantee for Wanna to step in on short notice against Henry Cejudo, an Olympic gold medallist and two-division UFC champion.
"It’s a tremendous opportunity for Wanna to show the world why you don’t play boxing and I am confident he will shine bright as the star he is and defeat a UFC great.”
Walton is best known for his role in American television series Euphoria, but he made the transition to boxing in 2023 when signing for Jake Paul's MVP.
He made his professional debut against Moises Guzman Almonte in December 2023, emerging victorious via TKO, and has amounted an unbeaten 3-0-1 record thus far.
Also scheduled on the Miami card is Tony Ferguson vs Kenzo Biyong for the MFB middleweight title, Chase DeMoor vs Plinio Cruz for the MFB heavyweight title and FoxTheG vs Justin Ibarrola for the MFB lightweight title.
