Borussia Dortmund are the favourites to sign free agent winger Jadon Sancho following his release from Manchester United.
Sancho has been without a club since the start of July as United opted against triggering his option of a further year to bring the curtain down on a forgettable five years at Old Trafford.
The former England international joined the Red Devils for £73million in the summer of 2021, but failed to hit the heights he scaled during an extremely productive four-year spell with Dortmund.
Sancho subsequently returned to Dortmund on loan and had other spells at Chelsea and Aston Villa, although neither club decided to pursue the 26-year-old on a permanent basis - Chelsea even paid a £5m penalty fee to Man Utd to ensure they didn't have to sign Sancho.
Sancho has been assessing his options since becoming unattached and despite reportedly receiving offers from the Premier League, it's understood the winger favours a move abroad as he attempts to rebuild his tarnished career.
Training at non-league club Flixton to maintain his fitness, Sancho has attracted interest from Italy, Turkey and the Middle East, with several Qatari and Saudi Arabian sides contemplating an offer for the Manchester City academy product.
At one stage Sunderland headed our market to sign Sancho, but it now appears Dortmund are leading the race to acquire their former player. However, it remains to be seen whether the Bundesliga giants will act before the transfer window concludes or whether they will bide their time, given Sancho's status as a free agent.
Sancho made 158 appearances across two spells for Dortmund. During his first stint, he helped the club to achieve DFB Pokal success in 2020/21 and delivered 114 goal contributions in 137 appearances.
His second stint wasn't quite as productive, but he still tallied two goals and three assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances and helped Dortmund reach the UEFA Champions League final, playing an instrumental role in their successes over Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Murmurs of Sancho to Dortmund have heightened since the weekend after Giannis Konstantelias suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury and the Greek winger faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
