Wycombe Wanderers have their eyes on promotion to the Championship, and they should prove their ability against Portsmouth, who have been struggling in the second tier after gaining promotion from League One last season when the pair meet in the third round of the FA Cup at Adams Park on Friday.
Wycombe Wanderers to win - 13/10
Portsmouth have got their act together enough to drag themselves out of the Championship relegation zone, but there is little in their recent away form to suggest that they are a good bet to win their FA Cup third-round tie at Wycombe Wanderers on Friday.
Having seen Ipswich Town claim successive promotions to grab a Premier League spot, some believed Pompey could do the same, but a challenge at the top of the table has not materialised and now they are just trying to avoid a drop back into League One.
They have produced some decent performances at Fratton Park recently, but they need more from their travels if they are going to avoid relegation.
An October win at QPR courtesy of a Callum Lang penalty has been their only league road success this term and they have taken just one point from their last six away games, scoring just once in their previous four.
Wanderers should take advantage of their travel sickness having looked strong at Adams Park for most of the season.
They suffered a 1-0 home reverse against Huddersfield on Tuesday, but that was their first defeat on their own patch since they fell to second-tier big hitters Birmingham City on August 17.
A visit from John Mousinho’s side would not represent a huge step up in class and the Chairboys should book their place in the fourth round without the need for extra time.
Richard Kone to score at any time - 13/8
Stockport’s Louie Barry is the only player to have scored more goals than Richard Kone in League One this season and the Wycombe hitman should relish the opportunity to make his mark against a Championship defence on Friday.
Kone, who was on target in the last round when Wanderers saw off National League Wealdstone, has scored four goals in his previous five games and had 14 shots on target in his last six outings for the Chairboys, so he is plainly not scared to have a pop at goal.
The Ivorian forward has proved he can make the step up already this season after scoring against both Swansea City and Aston Villa in the EFL Cup, and he looks like being a big threat to the Pompey defence this weekend.
Over 10.5 corners - 10/11
Both teams are set to be positive at Adams Park and that could lead to a decent number of corners.
Portsmouth have earned the sixth-highest number of corners in the Championship despite being fourth from bottom with 5.67 per game, and while that figure goes down to 3.38 when they are on the road, only QPR have conceded more than their average of 7.77 per away game.
Wanderers have forced an average of 4.67, but the fact this could prove to be an open game means it could be worth taking the over in the two-way corner bet.
